    Default Pachislo Newbie

I've started using this forum for information so much, I figured I might as well say 'Hello!' properly and tell my story on how I got into this Pachislo stuff X)

I work in a small business store, and when I went in to work this last Christmas Eve this new addition greeted me:

At the time, I wasn't even aware of the word 'Pachislo', but I've always had an interest in any machine that involved using buttons/dials/levers to manipulate something behind glass (so basically pinball/crane/slot machines). I also have a fondness for taking a machine that doesn't appear to work (or no one in the room knows how to make it work) and get it working again, so when the manager and the owner said they weren't sure how to get it working, it was love at first sight!

The manager had brought it in to sell for her sister who was moving into an apartment and didn't want her kids messing with it given how loud it is. One reel light was burned out, there's a couple of nicks in the sides, it came with about 405 tokens and a stand, the belly art's been replaced with a Corvette ad, came with both keys, but otherwise completely functional. I'm not sure if $180 was a good deal, but since I'd just gotten $100 for helping a friend find an emergency replacement for a destroyed out-of-print book, it felt like I was only paying $80.

In my first thread asking for the identity of this machine--which I now know to be a Kyojin no hoshi by Aristocrat thanks to the awesome people on this forum--I'd said I couldn't justify throwing any more money at it for now, but now I'm already making plans to buy more tokens and possibly a volume adjuster (using little business card magnets over the front of the speaker grates for now), and I've already gone as far as pulling all the reels out to find out (the hard way) why two of the reel lights weren't working and replaced them successfully, so I think that means I've got the bug.

So that's pretty much where I am now; I haven't even had the machine for a week, and I've already successfully pulled stuff out, replaced stuff, and put stuff back in without breaking anything, and despite not understanding Japanese, I have most of the machine's little mini-games figured out. Now just for the tokens, a volume adjuster, and perhaps when I've managed to find replacement belly art, I'll try to gather the courage to open that part of the machine up.
