    Default Pachislo Internet Tournament System

    Hey guys and girls,

I have made enough progress following the information gathered about the pachislo stop board from my previous post, so I figured I'd make a dedicated thread for my next project: an internet connected pachislo tournament system.

    The Idea:
To create a way to connect Pachislo systems together to offer an enhanced gaming experience similar to the "americanized" casinos. Pachislo machines that are internet connected can participate in wide area progressive jackpots where each machine's owner can set the amount of 1 per every 'x' tokens inserted that are contributed to the wide area jackpot.

    Features:
    • Wide Area Progressive play - Slot owners can configure how many tokens to contribute over time. Wide Area Progressives are won through mini-games displayed on the upper monitor.
    • Mini-Games - At random times, mini games can appear on the upper monitor. Mini games are controlled by the 3 front buttons on the Pachislo. These games can be slots or some other "pick a random object on screen" objectives as seen in bonus rounds
    • Tournament Play - Slot owners can configure their machine through a web interface to allow tournament play. Tournament play would allow a certain number of credits on the machine for a period of time, then the participant has to play all credits during that time. The player's tournament score is the sum of all "tokens out" based on the person playing with their credits.
    • Web Browser-based Configuration - Since the Pachislo would be internet connected, configuration can be managed from your web browser.
    • Player Profiles - Player profiles are synchronized with cards. If no card swipe is installed, the web configuration tool can be used to assign players to a machine.

If anyone is fairly tech-savvy, I might need some beta testers in the near future. The equipment:

    • Raspberry Pi Computer (Online for $35)
    • WI-FI USB plugin (optional) (Online for $10)
    • Card Swipe/RFID reader (optional) (Online for $20)
    • Wire from CN4 connector on relay stop board to the pins on the raspberry pi
    • Monitor that connects via HDMI to the computer

More will be posted here as the platform develops. Any ideas, comments or features? Feel free to post!

At the appropriate time, please show more details of what needs to be connected inside the pachislo.

    Hey Carl,

For the purposes of my tests, here's how things are connected:

    2013-12-15_17-22-47_78.jpg

The first 4 pins (shown on the picture above at the far left white connector, unconnected) are for the 3 reel stop buttons. These will be used later for controlling the games on the monitor.

Right now I am only using 3 pins on that 8 pin connector. On the 8 pin connector, from the right, I am using pins 1, 2 (token in, token out) and pin 6 (ground). Those pins go to the arduino. The grounds are shared, and the token in/out pins are connected to pins 2 and 3 on the Arduino as shown below:

    2013-12-15_17-42-25_339.jpg

The Arduino keeps track of the high speed signals coming from the pachislo. From there, it sends these commands back to the main computer over USB so that the main display can be updated and so that the game can report stats back to the central computer.

Are those three white connections at the top not typically hooked up to anything? Maybe for parlor use?

It looks like .100 spacing but any idea of what the connector is e.g. molex? How many positions 1x8? Would the actual plug have polarity via tabs or a latch?
Looks like your connector fit pretty well.

Looking at the picture above of the CN4 connector (the top, right, white one with wires). Does anyone know what connector that is?

    e.g. Molex ######

    Thanks!

Something like this should work (8 pins, 2.54mm pitch)

Is that a verified compatible molex for the pins that control the battle counter? Ive been looking for one.

One thing I was not clear on from what has been posted, are you running the entire thing from the Pi or is there a separate PC needed? I think the magic bullet would be to get the entire thing onto a Pi, that way anyone could cable one up to their relay board, put a Pi inside and stick a cheap monitor on top to participate quick, easy, and cheap which is the key to getting a large adoption of the system. I would go for that. Brilliant idea overall. I like the idea of a no-card method so that one could assign an ID to a machine such as Scott's Arcade Popeye and arcade Vs arcade tournaments could be done.

    Good day all!

Sorry about the delay in updates, things have been hectic, just got married, etc! I've had a BUNCH of PMs and emails about this system, and I've mostly replied to them all. I'll try to address some of the blanket questions here as well.

    EQUIPMENT:
The idea is to get everything onto a raspberry pi. The big "IF" here is being able to read the interface board pins at a fast enough resolution so we don't "miss" clicks coming from the slot machine. We will also have to drop the incoming voltage to ~3.3V feeding into the pins on the raspberry pi so we don't fry anything. This keeps the cost around $30-40 per machine in hardware requirements (excl. a monitor)

My demo used an RFID card reader, though we could easily make the software identify each machine statically for scenarios where the same people are playing in the same household/arcade.

    GAMEPLAY:
The idea here is to have mini games, some independent and some linked. I would also love for there to be some sort of WAP jackpot so that everyone can contribute in some way. I'd love to hear ideas on this!

I thank everyone for the TREMENDOUS support for this little side project. Its been a lot of fun, and anyone who has experience in interpreting pachi slot signals from the interface board is encouraged to message me as I could use all the insight I can get!

Just got the new operating system installed on the raspberry pi with wifi. Now I just need to build some circuit protection with a 3v regulator to hook the machine up to the pi!

Looks like the two most convenient points are the 8 pin connector on the interface board for gathering stats and then the ribbon connector for credit add, auto stop and reel button sensing!

    I'll investigate further!

Here are the drawing for the 8 pin connector for most modern machines.

Really bummed that this stalled. I am always looking for something awesome to do with tech/pachislos and I was kinda hyped for this. Is there any possibility you can release the work you've done so far under GNU GPL?
