Call me old fashioned but I don't like the idea of replacing the reels with video. At that point it's no longer a pachislo in my mind. I'm sure there are slot simulators for the PC but, really, what's the point? What I would like to see is a full screen display that can be transparent when the reels are spinning, then go to full screen mode after you've stopped the reels.

At first I feared that it was a bad sound board. But, it looks like it was caused by the volume controls that were (I assume) installed by pachisloshop.com.

They looked like pretty cheap pots. I replaced them with Parts Express L-Pads and everything seems to work fine. My best guess are that:

    1. They were just cheap pots and couldn't take the power put out by the amp.
    2. They presented a load to the amp that it didn't like so the amp itself would start to misbehave after a short time.
    3. There were cold solder connections to the pots. I did find that the wires were just tack-soldered onto the pot's terminals. That's a no no. You should never count on the solder to make the mechanical connection. You need to make a firm mechanical connection BEFORE you solder.

I vote for #1. But, whatever the cause, the L-pads seem to have fixed it, and they also give me much better control over the volume.
    Gwarzin,
Which Parts Express L-Pads did you use? I am having this same problem with my Gamera and would like to change to the L-pads.

    Thanks,

Who did you get your Gamera from? Did they install volume controls on it?

    Gwarzin,
I purchased my Gamera from Pachinko_Pallace. I put the volume controls on myself but the volume is fading in & out as you described so I thought I would try a better control. Thanks for showing me what you used.

    Jakester,
Thanks for the help - this is the control I purchased. I think I prefer a single control over 2 separate ones.

Let us know if the L-pads fix the problem on your Gamera. On mine I had assumed it was caused by really cheap pots. But it's pretty unlikely that you used exactly the same type of pot that came pre-installed in mine. So it might be that the amplifier used in Gamera is really sensitive to the type of load it sees.

If the L-pad fixes it on yours, like it did on mine, they we can be pretty sure that there are at least some pachislos out there that REQUIRE careful attention to the type of load we're putting on the amplifiers. That would argue for using L-Pads all the time, just to be safe (except maybe on Sammy tweeters, which present a way different load than a regular speaker).
