Call me slow, but I just realized something.

If I combine items for shipping, I can save a little money there in shipping. But by combining items, I increase my dutiable total, which if was separate shipments, each might be "under the radar" (less than 400).

    For example: item 1 costs $700, item 2 costs $600. shipped together, $1300. $1300 - $400 = $900 $900 x 4% (just a guess here)= $36.
    But if shipped separately $700 - $400 = $300 $300 x 4% = $12 $600 - $400 = $200 $200 x 4% = $8 $12 + $8 = $20 So I save $16.

But... and you knew there was a "but"...

If I double box the items, there is a $20 fee. So combined, its $20, separate, $40 total. So if I separate, I save $16 but spend $20. I am out $4.

However, because the $12 and $8 are so low, customs might just say "forget it, its not worth the trouble to collect such a small amount." In this case, I save $16 again. But if customs will also not bother for $36, then I will save $20 with combined shipping.

Great, now I have given myself a dilemma and a headache. Any suggestions?

Did you go with Fedex, or opt for EMS?

The FromJapan invoice enclosed in the box should list the item auction reference. If you can post/email them the link to the original auction, and make sure you get a print out of it incase the listing gets deleted.

although I suppose you can understand why they don't believe that these cool machines sell so cheap back in Japan.

Hope you get it real soon. Customs just hates it when they can't get more money out of us. Its like that's how they are judged on their job performance.

Six containers of fake Rolex watches from Guanzhou? Forget it.

Hey, that guy only paid $50 for a pachi? He's up to no good!

Juno is someone who bids on your behalf since most sellers on YJA won't ship. And then there's the language barrier.
So to bid on something, you contact Juno (an individual) and provide him with the link to the auction you want to bid on and your max bid. He'll request a deposit and then bid for you. If you win, you pay the shipping from the seller to Juno, Juno's fees and bank fees (which are a percentage of the sale price), and then shipping from Juno to you.
It sounds complicated but is very easy and we've had great results with Juno.
Shipping is expensive though. Its 350-400 dollars just to ship from Japan to the US per machine.

Bidservice.jp - Juno's Japan Bid and Buy Agent Service for Worldwide.

Above is the link for Juno, I've worked with him numerous times in the past. Hassle free, just expensive shipping.
