    Default Ashtray paint removal

    Hi,

I searched but cannot find the post I had read the other day where somebody mentioned a product to remove the paint that was sprayed into the ashtrays before the machines were shipped here. Can anybody please direct me to the post or how to do this?

    Thanks!
    Mike

I would love to know that as well. I always use a large wad of steel wool and LOTS of elbow grease. It works well, but takes a lot of time and makes my fingers really sore.

I use pure simple green and scrub with an old toothbrush.

Let it soak overnight or a few days in the simple green. Then scrub and let soak for a little more and then scrub. Repeat till clean.

This worked like a charm, thanks! I left it for like 3 days (I totally forgot it was in there) and all the paint dissolved off of it. Is there a way you suggest shining it up? Thx again!

Personally I use a buffing wheel in my drill press and compound for metal. (if you do that make sure you tape over the plastic or else it will turn silver from the dirt on the wheel) Otherwise I'd just say do a nice hand polish with some Mothers Mag/Aluminum polish. Then after I polish the ashtray I always hit them with a coat of Rustoleum regular gloss clear to keep the shine. (unless you like polishing aluminum) Also on the clear make sure it is the regular rustoleum as it goes on better and last longer because it goes on slightly thicker.
