Default Sanyo comet II case lock question

    Hi,

I searched and could not find what I needed. Is there a way to get a lock made or a work around for my lock? It is a round key rather that a flat one. If not what are my choices for ways to open once I make a cabinet?

    thanks,
    Mike

One possibility is to de-pin the lock, then it can be opened by any flat blade-like item, like another key, a flathead screwdriver, or even a butter knife. (Or in your case some type of round item?)

My one and only pachislo had this done as part of its conversion, and it has worked out great. I'm definitely considering it for my pachinkos as I will be mounting them in cabinets soon, and have keys for exactly zero of them. The security provided by the locks would only be desirable if I were opening my own parlor.

Long ago I re-pinned a lock for my car after some vandal shoved a pencil in it and it wasn't too hard. De-pinning should be even easier.

I will look to see if any in my area will.

    How do you de-pin it?

    Thx!

I'm sure the exact way of getting inside different lock cylinders varies, but all cylinder locks operate under the same principle: inside the cylinder are several tiny spring-loaded pins that are divided in two (not half) at various heights. The correct key pushes up on the pins and makes all of the divisions in the pins line up thus allowing the lock to turn. If you remove all of those pins and springs, the lock should be able to turn freely no matter what you stick in the keyhole to turn it.

I'm sure any locksmith could do it if asked.

Those puzzle key locks are hard to make keys for. I haven' t tried to I do it yet. There really is no way to remove the pins as the lock is press fitted together. So the only way to remove them is to cut open the lock which destroys the lock and most likely won't work.

Blast, there goes my suggestion, oh well. I hope at least it will work on my more modern machines that use more normal keys.

That is a great idea! Does the lock maker matter? My only concern would be the key snapping because of how much force needed to push open the case mechanism. Does it take a lot of force?

    thanks,

This is the lock I use and it works just fine.

You may want to clean and oil the locking mechanism making sure it works smoothly

Assuming you want to mount your machine in a wall cabinet...

Ensure your machine plays well in "plumb" position before mounting it plumb. Some games need the slight tilt back; that is how they were in the parlour. If the pachinko balls are getting stuck between the nails and the glass or if the tulips / WIN pockets don't function as expected; your game might need the "tilt" built in.

Continuing with assumption that you want a wall mount; how about just removing the two latch catches (one shown in red oval)? Then you can pull open the door without a key. The front door is not that easy to open to begin with. The door won't just fly open on it's own... Depends on if your wall mount has the machine's door edges concealed or exposed.

thanks, I will check to see how it plays before putting in a cabinet. The plan is yes to wall mount it (at least I believe it will be). I have not looked at or really thought about cabinet design yet so not sure about exposed edges. Is there a way to conceal the edges and still have the door swing freely? Is there a place to look at designs?

    thanks!

I started looking in the cabinet forum and will stroll around the rest if the site as
    well.

And mad you never know about the pachislo... I look around at different things to buy. I can't afford a lot but if reasonable enough I can convince my wife. :-). Last night I bid on and won another pachinko on eBay. I have been looking at listings the past few weeks at both pachinko and vintage pinballs. The price was within my range and my wife will have my kids give it to me for Xmas. So you never know about the pachislo... :-)
