New to Pachitalk - I Think I Have The Bug

I bought a working vintage New Gin a month ago off of Craig's List and the seller threw in a non-functioning Sanyo just to get rid of it New Gin Casino 1.jpg Pachi Sanyo Jet 1.jpg. I started to read the Pachitalk threads (oh-oh...) - and started to say things to myself like "Boy, dozens of hours to painstakingly restore the machine...wow - I'd like to try that" and muttering repeatedly "I need to buy Simply Green and Miracle Cloth". I can stop if I wanted to...really. Just because I picked up 4 more machines in various conditions during the last 4 weeks and have been visiting Radio Shack on a regular basis does NOT mean I have a problem. Right? I mean, just because I now know what a microswitch is and the fact that it took me 20 minutes to polish 4 darn brass pins (and enjoyed it) - that is normal, right? Is there a vaccine for this? My wife just shakes her head with a look of "he used to be okay until THIS happened". Thanks to the forums for all of the good info - it is great stuff and I look forward to learning while I begin to clean and fix these wonderful machines.

Welcome to PachiTalk, as well as to the Dark Side of the hobby!! I can totally relate to your story - I was in your exact shoes a few years ago. My wife still rolls her eyes and wonders what ailment I have every time I drag another Pachinko into the house or garage. There isn't any known cure for it, so just embrace it and enjoy the ride!!

I'm also glad to see another new member from Colorado in the forum!! I am north of Denver and have been repairing and restoring vintage Pachinkos for five years now. Hopefully we can meet up sometime and talk Pachinko-talk.

Yes. Completely normal. We don't have a vaccine. But we do have a 12 step program. (though it hasn't worked for anyone yet. )

My wife is a pachinko enabler, and thus is supportive of my schemes to build cabinets and such. She'd like to see me reach my goal of having a machine from each decade/major era. She has even helped by getting me a machine for Christmas!

Her only insistence was that I mod my Galaxy Railways machine with volume controls, and I could hardly argue with her: The machine must have been putting out 120db+ at normal playing distance, and disrupted TV watching 3 rooms away.

And no, she's not a huge pachinko nut like the rest of us, though she does play occasionally. I think she just likes seeing me tinker with stuff.
