Default Newbie Request - Daiichi seesaw-jackpot lever-reset rod

    HI,

I just bought 2 different 70's pachinko machines from the local want ad's. They were listed as not working, and really, after some basic cleaning, and tweaking, the 2 machines work. (but)

I have a question about the 74's Daiichi. I have read, re-read, and searched all over Pachitalk, and the net to see if I can figure this out myself, but I cant.

When I saved the Daiichi from the dusty furnace room it was stored in, it was "taken apart" by the owner, and he gave me all the parts, and a jar of 200 balls that were not all pachinko balls.

After I cleaned, and put all the parts back where I could based on lots of great photos on the net, I discovered that I was missing the rod that joins the jackpot lever to the bell crank that raises the lever to release the winning ball into the collection shoot.

(please excuse the words if I have not described them right. I know every hobby has their own lingo, and I'm trying to learn this one as fast as I can)

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, please have a look at these: This shows the rod that was missing, that I made from 14AWG wire. I fed it through the only hold that was in the bottom of the jackpot lever area, and to the right of the Seesaw mech.

    Dropbox - missing rod.jpg

These are 2 videos that show the first winning ball play through, and the second winning ball that will not reset the seesaw to the correct position:

    Dropbox - 2013-10-07 17.47.55.mp4
    Dropbox - 2013-10-07 17.48.29.mp4

I understand that the rod I made needs to attach to the bell lever to lift the gate to allow the winning ball to fall out of the system, and release the lever to load the balls for the next jackpot, but, and this is where I need your help.

I can not for the life of me, find a photo that show where, or how I need to connect the rod to the lever inside the orange housing. My gut says that there should be a part, or a hole even to allow the rod to join the lever, but I cannot find any. Right now, the rod is just wrapped around the lever; but I do not think its right.

Can anyone point me in a better direction?

    Thank you for any help

    Chris

im 99% sure it is not connected at the top

in you second vid you push the ball holder to release the payout.. that is where it is hooked up at..

the action of the falling jackpot balls puch the rod down and release the single winning ball like you did with your finger

Thank you to everyone for the welcomes, and the quick replies.

@ Browne - Thank you. I look forward to any photos that will help me get this up and running.

@ Mopar - you are correct, The one side of the rod is attached to the lower lever. Specifically, it is fished in from the back, and is bent up from the front. I did not have it attached during the video, or the pictures. I have also entertained your idea about not being connected at the top; I've had a similar thought; I just don't understand then i) what stops the wire from falling out the guide hole in the orange plastic, and ii) what part of the jackpot lever system pushes on the rod? Is there a part, or cap for the top of the rod, for something to push on?

@ Carl: Those are nice pictures, but much like my machine, I can not see into the orange housing that hides what the top of the rod is doing, or looks like.

I grabbed one last photo where I stuck the camera almost inside the seesaw area looking towards the jackpot lever.

    Dropbox - 2013-10-07 17.46.30.jpg

One can almost make out where I wrapped the wire around the brass arm of the lever.

    Thanks

    First off :welcomeagon: to Pachitalk

There shouldn't be anywhere to connect it inside the actual housing if I remeber right. It should just rest in place and the arm should hit it and lift the tab letting the ball out.

Here is a picture I have a Daiichi I had a while back.

If you need better pics I got another one around here somewhere...

    100 machines and counting...

Max and Mopar are correct. It doesn't connect at the top. It's bent in an L shape, and what I would call the "main jackpot lever" (the lever with the big hook shaped piece near the see-saw) pushes it down, which raises the 'door' and releases the ball. The weight of the 'door' returns it to it's original position.

Like you, I almost crawled inside the see-saw compartment to take this picture. My camera was none too happy about the angle, I had a hard time getting it to focus. Hope it helps.

After my last post, while sipping the day ending glass of wine, waiting for my pot pie to come out of the microwave, I realized what you said. You have the wire wrapped around the upper lever? If so, the lower lever, upper lever, and hole in the cover must be in perfect alignment. My guess is, the whole thing is in a bind.

Don't worry about the wire falling out. Having it attached to the lower lever will stop that. The hole in the plastic cover will act as a guide. You just need a flat surface under the jackpot lever for it to push down on.

Not sure what kind of wire you used, but if you need me to, I can measure the diameter of the wire on mine. You can probably find a 'music wire' that is reasonably close to the same thing at your local hobby shop. If you give up all together, I can take mine apart and replicate the wire. Then I can add it to my available parts list.

Edit: Also, I just looked at your video again. You're trying to get the lever to pull up on the door. Check Carl and Max's pictures. You need to be pushing down on the other side of the pivot point.

Im new to the world of pachinko, and I hope its okay I jump in here, but I am having the same problem with my Daiichi! My machine has a few missing pieces which I am slowly recreating/replacing, however I am having trouble reproducing the one you guys are speaking about without proper dimensions. I believe the diameter of my wire I am using is fine as it is not binding, but I seem to be having issue making contact with the jackpot lever correctly. Is the L shape bend you spoke about a 90 degree angle? How long is the bend? What is the correct length from bend to the part that attaches to the lower lever?

If anyone has a spare wire from a Daiichi machine, or doesnt mind removing the one from their current machine and snapping a photo and giving dimensions, that would help me greatly.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

    Browne:

Thank you for the info (and picture) on the L shape. That might be just the right info for me to get this up and running.

Thank you again to everyone who chimed in with thoughts, and ideas.

    Regards
    Chris

JRB and Chris, I'll try to get out to the shop tonight, but it might not be until Saturday. I'll pull the wire, get some a picture and measurements, and post them here (and probably my web site, too).

    And welcome to PT, JRB!

OK, got a little time before the GF gets here for The Great Cooking Night Challenge™, so here you go:
    DSC00900.jpgDSC00901.jpg

I don't know if all the bends are supposed to be there or the thing has had a rough life, but I suspect it was made that way. It appears to be made of brass rod, 1/16" (.065") or 1.65 mm in diameter. Over all length comes in at 6 5/8" or 168 mm. Hoping to do some measured drawings over the next couple of days. I'll put them up when I'm done.

Edit: I loaded the wrong pics and thought I deleted them, but now they're showing up as 'Attached Thumbnails'. My goof.
