    I agree.

A lot of time progress is very in subjective our minds. Just because it's new and creates a change doesn't mean it is progress.

    Good point!

I usually make 1 good point a year. I was due for one, but it's only April. I guess my brain can take the rest of the year off?

I am not a lawyer but as soon as you go coinless you are not really talking slot machine anymore....

Heres my case... if I put a quarter in a pinball (or 2 grumble, grumble) and happen to score a free game (or multiple). I get a credit. Good for another game. If I am good I win multiple credits.

Since its perfectly legal for my 10year old to play pinball, in which he can win credits and pinball is legal in all states. I no longer buy the arguement that a gaming machine should be restricted to over 21 or be illegal in any state if it pays out in credits...

You could also probably make the arguement that a casino really does not want to pay out credits and would simply prefer you to continue to "play" your credits for entertainment purposes. So just like pinball ... its now just a game that on occasion gives out credits.

... now my best point....Since I don't want kids in the casinos....bring back the coins...!!!

The big flaw in your eloquent brief is that you can turn in the ticket for cash, but the pinball machine you can't.

Seems like you should be right but the times r achangin.. no more dirty hands and no more clunk clunk clunk sounds and trippin' over silver dollars on the casino floor. That's progress for you and the Casinos are convinced that the younger crowds will be burstin' thru the doors to play all these ticket in/out slots. Besides that , look at all the money they the casinos save with not having all that money tied up in labor to fix coin acceptors and bag those coins etc.

Another thing they will be doing (as per a Travel channel show that was on a week or so ago) is that the newer slots will have small touch screens that you can order your drink from and also request your favorite soap or sports program to be played on a small screen on the slot while you keep stickin' your paper tickets in and losing your money ! What this is going to do is allow the casinos to fire 2/3rds of their cocktail waitresses as they will just be delivering you the cocktail and not taking your order. So they don't need 2/3rds of them anymore. Now that is more disturbing to me than the ticket in/out stuff. I hope the unions stop that. But surprisingly the unions have't been able to stop the ticket slots coming in that will create more job losses also in the long run.

I am a manager in an IT shop so I know that 2/3rds of my costs are Labor and we are always looking at ways to reduce. Self Service is the name of the game these days. It just bugs me that these casinos are raking in billions and still feel the need to cut the human element out of the fray. Despite having my own contingent of machines I really prefer playing blackjack against a real dealer and interacting with the people on either side of me. Its the whole collective experience, sort of like going to a movie. I think if the casinos want to make more money they need to get more people gambling and without the human element to encourage this, either through themed coctail waitresses or dealers not forced to do 20 hands in 30min. The average joe is not going to want to sit at a $10 table and buy himself an education if the dealer doesn't have the time to make him feel welcome and comfortable.

All I know is I have had fun watching and interacting with the cocktail waitresses. I will miss the sights I have seen. Hopefully this will be a slow process(getting rid of 2/3rds of the cocktail waitresses). The machine technology(touch screen cocktail ordering) is brand new and probably isn't out at very many casinos yet. Hopefuly the unions will get tuff and slow this down.

As far as the fast play required of dealers etc ...thats why we like downtown Las Vegas the best as it has so many Casinos. What we do is set a maximum loss figure for each casino and if it is reached we are out of that casino and into the next prompto (no taxis, no waiting for valet and no sitting in traffic to get to the next casino).

I personally hope the ticketin/ticketout systems fail(yes I like dirty hands and the clunk clunk sounds also) or at least the unions step on it and save the jobs somehow that are going to be lost.

The bad thing for me are the touch-screen machines. I can't play 'em with hooks. Liable to bust the screen.

Actually the coinless machines are easier for me. But while a bit of trouble, I'll still take coins/tokens!

    I couln't agree more!!!

I don't go to the Casino's often, but they will lose my business if these trends continue. I hope to get to AC in the next few weeks. I want to grab some coin cups from each Casino before they go to the landfills.
