    Default Mitaka finished, video included

Amazing early 1950's Mitaka. Took a month and a half, and trust me, it was tough. I know the colors look radical, but once I got the frame apart the correct colors became obvious. I know we tend to think of older machines with drab browns and beiges, but they have faded just like all the rest. They were always bright with screaming colors to attract players.

This unique machine holds the jackpot balls in two rows around the center attraction planet and dumps them when you win. I doubt we will never see another, and since it is a restore for a customer, it will probably never be seen again by our community. This video may be the only record that it ever existed. Enjoy!

Nice job but the faded colors seem more appropriate for the era and look better. Interesting.

I know, it is always tempting just put dull faded colors back onto machines because that is what we are used to seeing. But that would really be no different than getting an old automobile that had bright red paint originally and then restoring it with a faded rusty color just because that is how they look in junkyards. With older cars we pretty much only see restored ones, and we have plenty of color photos and movies from the day so we are used to them looking bright and fresh. With pachinkos, not so much.

I agree! If finding original colors hidden where UV light hasn't damaged them...and I was replacing the cell, I would like to restore to the original colors! Nice job...it looks fantastic. The tin looks like it was painted, or is some of it plastic? If painted tin, was that original in its day or a decision to prevent rust from coming back? Also, if still in your care, can you take some pics of how the center works. I love unusual mechanisms, and like to see just how they function! Another fantastic job you did there!

The "tin" parts were very badly rusted. They originally had that really thin chrome coating on them. They were primered, painted, and the sealed with polyurethane to prevent any further corrosion.

Wow, you're right. Seeing the faded colors all the time screws up your perception. I never would have thought the original colors were that bright.

    Dat's purrrty.
