    Default Cabinet lock removal/replacement help?

Gone, gone GONE - I want it gone!

It's hard to explain why, but I hate the fact that there's a useless lock on my machine. Ideally, I'd replace it with a modern tubular pin lock, or perhaps a handle to unlatch the cabinet.

Here's the front side (the decorate plastic plate is hanging upside-down by it's bottom screw)...

And here's the back... yeah, I sawed off the cam with a reinforced cutting wheel. That was fun, but accomplished nothing.

It looks like the lock cylinder was hammered into place - there are friction ridges on the outside of the cylinder (look close in the front view). It's securely fastened to the metal bracket on the interior with a couple of tabs. They're too small and the metal too solid for me to bend/pry them loose.

Anyone know how to get this bloody thing out?

I am hoping to do the same thing, replace the locks on three of my older machines. My plan was to remove the locks and take them to my locksmith to see if I can get a key made or find a replacement.

The first machine is my Arrangeball...

    Second is my T-Bird PowerFlash...

Third would be my Computer Pachinko...

The locks on the Arrangeball and the Computer Pachinko appear to be very similar, so I thought I would start with them.

I would love to hear anyone's advice or what how they were able to fix their locks.

I'm being plagued by "Server Busy" issues here today so it's a pain to search but if you scroll down through the threads in the Vintage and Pachinko Modifications sections you'll find information on rigging up something different for the front door lock as well as information on the original locks themselves. There have been some very inventive ideas, also you can do a search for locks.

@ CS here is how to fix the powerflash.

(courtesy of member Cardwwi) That lock is so easy to dump out all the pins so you can open it with just a screwdriver as well.

    @ bundto

The Sankyo locks were stamped into the latch housing. So they are near impossible to remove. Your only option is to remove the whole latch.

If you do want to remove just the lock my suggestion would be to try to cut off the lock flush on the back and the drill out the whole cylinder. I'm not sure if it will work but it is worth a shot.

I removed the whole lock mechanism from my PowerFlash. Unfortunately, lock cylinder is not attached by screws, so doubt I will be able to remove the lock cylinder.

I started playing my PowerFlash with game modification and forgot all about the lock. Ended up doing an adjustment with the shot sensor. Played a bunch of games and it is working great. I love how it lets you keep score with multiple players. I still want to play with the programming a bit. I am thinking of adding a bonus round in the last 10 seconds of each player's last turn where it opens all the tulips again.
