Default Increasing picture size in posts

When I post pics, the inline pic is always a thumbnail that leads to a larger pic. For 99% of the time, this is more than acceptable.

However I have a couple of .jpg's that I would like to use for birthdays that I would like to appear large enough to read in the body of the message without having to click on them.

I've seen others post larger pics, but can't figure out how to do it.

    any help would be appreciated.

Oh that's simple, just upload the pic as normal and then double click it and choose what size you want,

I usually choose the 'medium' option

But don't worry I can edit them to make them bigger or smaller if needed

I think it's explained in the 'how to' for posting pics, but it's been a while since I read that one, so I could be wrong

One of the benefits of uploading your pics to the post directly and using 'inline'

    my preferred method

I looked here, Reading and Posting Messages

    But didn't see anything.

Also tried looking in the "attachments" dialog box but didn't see anything.

Thanks again for the hints, sorry if I didn't see it and it was pre-posted elsewhere.

Took me a while to find out about it too. Nice thing to know.

I now also upload almost all my pictures like that. I was using the uploader but then I noticed that would limit you to a file size of 1MB (too small for my pics) if I do it the other way I think it is like 8MB is max file size. That way I don't have to go a compress all my pictures.

Is there a way to post bigger pictures without diminishing the quality as seen by the members? Is there an optimal size for the pictures?

When you insert them inline you should be able to double click them and select the image size.

Of course sometimes it will diminish quality if you picture isn't of high quality (I.E. taking a random picture off some other website.) But if you have high res pics you will be fine and it won't diminish quality.

Also if you use the image icon in the reply box to upload pictures (versus hitting Go Advanced and then scrolling down to manage attachments.) it doesn't have a size restriction of individual pictures (well I think 9GB is the limit but that is a huge picture and shouldn't be uploaded without resizing.) so that way you can post higher res pics. You are still limited to 9 pics per post in any case though.

I find my self a little lost each time I enter the attachment part of the post, despite my tenure on this site. I still load most of my photos the easy way as a group, or inline as a thumbnail that still induces that stupid pop-up window that takes forever to load and has diminished quality.

I've done it before, several times, but remembering the process while creating a post is frustrating if you don't do it often enough. I'll need to practice!
