Default Identifying an older 'game board' that looks like Pachinko to me.

From a friend. No, really, it is from a friend. I would just like to identify this "older machine"

It looks like a pachinko to me, but I only have a few of them myself.
Thanks to everybody for your help. I have been absent from the forum too long. Life is just a busy place, right??

Looks very much like a Lindstrom 'bagatelle' game

in fact it looks like a version of this one called 'Steeple chase' just missing the lettering and numbers,
and obviously the housing is different, but the game board design is almost identical

Wow, that was some really fast research. You must have seen something like this before my post. Any idea if cleaning it up would hurt the value, and also the website you linked me to says that it was played with marbles, not pachinko balls..; fascinating
Thank very much. This is still one of the best forums on the net.

Add a glass top and a coin mechanism, you'd have the father of all pinball machines.

Baffle Ball came out in 1931 and was wildly popular. But since pumping pennies into these machines got expensive, I'm guessing Lindstrom copied Gottlieb to make a home version. What you have there may be a well done home built model... it was done quite often at the time. And you are correct, most of the older machines used glass marbles as opposed to "steelies".

As far as value, I wouldn't worry too much, I doubt it is worth a lot. But you can always watch ebay (not listings, but completed auctions) to see what similar pieces go for.

    Enjoy and good luck!

I often used to post about bagatelle games i found listed on eBay, never bought any myself but always had a interest

Searching ebay for just 'Bagatelle' usually brings up all sorts from old ones to newer ones and some other interesting games too

Here's today search from eBay UK (Worldwide) bagatelle | eBay

Baffle Ball, I knew I recognized the playfield. Baffle Ball was indeed the father of pinball and really got the Gottlieb corporation on the map.

Pinball and Pachinko both share common ancestry, one went horizontal and one went vertical. Pachinko stayed much closer to it's roots however. Once flippers were brought into the mix to actually keep the ball in play, pinball changed irrevocably forever.
