Default This Ebay Auction Answered a Nagging Question

Which was: Did any pachinko have a CRT for the video display?
The answer is yes, Sankyo World Fever did.

Heres the chance to put together your own Sankyo World Fever. Its like a Monogram model kit, it just snaps together, no glue needed!

I would buy this if the shipping wouldn't be a nightmare.

So, does anyone here have one of these? And if so, just how deep does that CRT go?

Not too far back. Problem with the crt in these older games though is the capacitors go bad and you end up with just a line across the center (no raster). I've got one in pieces waiting for me to have the time to rebuild it.

The frame is an early CR type.

I don't think Sankyo used CRT's past the FF frame (style right after the Nasuka).

Also just found a Y&O machine similar to the machine luckydog mentioned called 1996 "CR Maoudensetsu EX" by Nishijin that uses a CRT

    Thanks for the update Alpha.

So I am guessing that these CRTs are getting an RGB signal from the computers, or is it composite video? Either way, you could re-direct it to an external large screen monitor, you know, like in the old Chuck E Cheeses.

The rules with CRT monitors that work, but have poor pictures.

    1. Replace all the electrolytic caps on the entire monitor chassis. I can't stress this point enough. If it's old enough to have a CRT, then the caps are old enough already and have probably dried out. No point trying to adjust it in and get a good picture when it's likely that the issues are due to the caps having drifted out of spec.

    2. Check the tube for emissions, and boost if necessary. OK most people won't have the kit to do this so you might have to omit this step. But if you can find an old TV repair shop (or a retired tech), they'll probably be more than happy to help you. Contact some arcade collectors, often someone in a video games collectors group will have access to the equipment. I've got a B&K CRT analyser of the type I used back when I was repairing TVs for a living. It cost me about $100 from eBay and it's made a lot of otherwise scrap CRTs shine like new.

If the tube still looks poor after cleaning and rejuvenation, and no replacements are available then consider a boost transformer for the CRT heaters (or an overwinding on the flyback transformer/LOPT if it's not encapsulated). A 30-50% increase in heater voltage can give good improvements to a tube with poor emissions. It will shorten the remaining life of the tube, but if it is in this condition already, it's likely that 'remaining life' isn't an issue any more.

    3. Start adjusting. If you can find a service manual online for the monitor chassis you're working on, then follow the instructions. Otherwise set any brighness/contrast to mid range. Adjust the focus and first anode controls on the flyback transformer. Get a good focus first, then adjust the A1 so that flyback lines start to appear, and then back it off a bit. Finally adjust the brightness/contrast and individual colour controls for a good balanced picture. If you can somehow get colour bars or a test card displayed on the monitor then this will help a lot in getting the adjustments correct.

    4. If it still looks rubbish. then find a replacement, or get an LCD panel and the appropriate interface board to get it working with the monitors input signals.

I should have had Daverob fix my RGB LED on my Yamato cannon.

I ended up trying to clear up the LED by "lightly" grinding the epoxy on the dim one. It worked. Until I grinded too deep on one side and killed the blue element. Then to make the cannon behavior consistent, I had to grind away the leads to the other two perfectly functioning blue LED's.

The cannons now are at least consistent, but they are all missing the blue component. It's as good as I can make it...

Speaking of nagging questions heima, that isn't a cigerette in her hand ( i thought it was one from the CL ad and then saw it close up it wasn't), and I never really researched it until now
it just so happens that is a Tenbou (or points stick ) used for score keeping in mahjong,
they have marks on them and act like poker chips,

    (here are the markings)

    Tenbou 点棒 (point sticks)

They are traditionally used to keep track of score. Just the same as poker chips.

It's a shame he's not willing to ship. I'd like to take a shot at it.

Thanks Alpha, of all the times I have seen people play Mahjong, I have never seen these sticks. Maybe its a competition/gambling Mahjong thing, rather than a recreational Mahjong thing.

And browne92, considering a lack of bids, you should contact the seller and see if he will bend on the shipping. His incentive is to make some money in shipping overhead, rather than no money at all. I get the feeling if there are no bids, the seller is just going to trash this pachinko.

He/she already said they were going to toss it. If they're too lazy to put it back together and too lazy to pack it up to ship, even if I talked him into shipping, would it get done right? I'd hate to spend money to get it in worse shape than it already is.
