my newest virus attack!!!

I was downloading a tv show I missed yesterday, all of a sudden my screen locked up with a genuine looking Interpol screen!!!

it stated I was downloading copywrited content and needed to get a debit card and transfer $300.00 to them to pay the fine or in 72 hours the police would come to arrest me

I unplugged my computer and went into safe mode then went thru the backdoor using my other logon name

I restored back a week and then ran malwarebits, it found 15 problem which I cleared up.

after a reboot everything was working fine again

always make sure you have a second logon on any of your systems

if I'm not online in 72 hours you will know it wasn't a virus

Do you have an active antivirus, as opposed to a passive antivirus?

And which web site did you download from, so that the rest of us can avoid it?

With the amount of T.V. / Movie downloads one might think that you are an Immortal Being that it should take at least 124 years to watch all the media .

Not going to keep me away. You just have to watch what you download. Usually don't download something unless it has 2 or 3 comments about the file.

it wasn't the file, the virus came from a 2nd screen that popped up and that I closed!!

I have been having problems with my computer lately too. Not really a virus thing but I get this thing called "sweetpacks" which is some plugin for interent explorer. It somehow found its way onto my computer. Sometimes it goes into all my browsers, sets it as the home page and main search engine. I have taken it out of my browsers and went into the actual programs files and deleted them. But for some reason it won't let me uninstall it from the control panel. (Must be some deal microsoft setup. )

No but I have an antivirus that also catches that and it has caught everything so far.
