    Default Me & My Machine

    Hi there pachinkos and pachinkettes!

A couple of weekends ago, on a complete and total whim, I bought a pachinko machine from an antique store's clearance sale. It wasn't working (it wouldn't shoot), but it looked in cleanable and repairable condition. To me, anyway. I've never owned a pachinko machine before. To be honest, I'm not sure if I'd ever even played pachinko before.

I had no idea how it worked or how it was played, except for the whole "shoot the balls and they bounce down" bit. The rest was a mystery. The back, which was uncovered, had a nifty-looking series of ramps and chutes and tilty things... here... take my money. I insist. I'll make it work.

    Here's what I got for my $15:

(should be a clickable thumbnail to a bigger view)

Time to confess: I have a small problem. I take things apart. I like to know what's inside. I like to fix broken things. Like that $8.00 Wal-Mart clock radio with the cold solder connections. Easy. Works great.

For example, the picture above. Next to the pachinko machine is a mostly-disassembled Xbox 360 that I was in the process of fixing. (It worked, no more Red Ring Of Death.)

I'm not entirely sure what design my machine is. I know it's a Sankyo, based on hours of exhaustive research, and from reading the label on the back. It looks a lot like this nicely restored one, but the board design is different.

Anyway, I've got a lot of the rear mechanism disassembled for cleaning at the moment. I'm still trying to get part of it open - there are still quite a few balls clogged in there. I managed to dislodge the red marble from the ball-entry ready-to-shoot slot (grumble grumble bloody kids grumble)...

... and it shoots balls around pretty nicely now, even without much cleaning. I quickly learned you can't launch a ball with the front glass open. Doh.

I'll post more on my machine and my repair attempts elsewhere... but there you go and here I am. Glad to be here.

    to Pachitalk

Also these covers are removable. There is a special way to do it though. Basically you have to remove the blue lower chute or the entire green portion to get it off because there are 2 screws hidden at the bottom.
