Wow, I thought I was a pachiholic, but my depths of pachiholism is nowhere near some of you guys. I would never think of spending money for an old Montgomery Ward Pachinko ad. But then again, I am pretty excited about seeing it once the transfer is complete...hypocrisy thy name is p.opus.

Thanks for taking one for the team alphaminor.

    How cheesetastic!!!

I love the line...This is not a toy... It's a REAL refurbished pinball machine (cough...gambling device...)

You can tell it's real little Johnny, see the ash tray and real cigarette burns...That screams authenticity.

Thank you for saving that. It was a lot of fun to watch. I would be happy to pay for a digital copy in order to off set your costs a bit.

    Glad you are enjoying it,
No payments are needed, after seeing what's on it, I feel it has been totally worth it to preserving that little gem

But if anyone would care for a digital copy I would be more than glad to send you a zip file of it, just PM me the email address you would like it sent to
    Cheers!

I love how they totally back lit the machine to make all the pockets glow. And also how wards makes it sound like it is their own game that they make.

I love the line that says "it is fully automatic."

    Thanks for posting this.

What is the name of the fella doing the voice over, who are the actors, and of course does anyone have this make/model with that exact configuration (lights, and cell image)? So many questions unanswered Oh, and how can we donate a few bucks to help offset the time and energy you put into preserving this commercial?

No one has the exact lighting configuration since the lights were obviously enhanced for the commercial. Front Overflow machines as the one listed usually had only two lamps, the jackpot low in the upper left and the center feature. The pocket lights were enhanced for TV.

The model is a 1970 Nishijin Model A front overflow. That is the only year they were made. Subsequent Model A's were streamlined more and had the ball transfer chute internal to the case. As far as that exact cell and payout pocket arrangement, I'm not sure. In those days the cell image was not tied to the jackpot elements as they are now. My 71 Bowling has tulips as it's cell image and what flowers and bowling have in common I don't know.

Pachinko Balls | Pachinko Machine Information, Products and Services has quite a few pictures of front overflow model A's that someone might be able to match the center feature to one listed. Also, mxfaiman is somewhat of a resident guru of these units and judging from his 100+ machine collection, if anyone has one of these exact machines in their stable it would be him.

Alphaminor: I just noticed your new avatar. Either that is one small person or one huge pachi. I can't tell.

Interesting. This machine appears to be genetically modified. There's a tulip on the lower left but just a pocket on the right. There also looks like a feature or special tulip was added below the center feature. The flashing lights appear to be coming from a backlight as well as a light from the left front. Note the reflection on the door lock and the chrome frame on the left. It sure is fun analyzing these old commercials!

BTW I have one of the machines in this ad Sears Catalogue. 20130327_143206.jpg
