Default Pachinko 4 Charity @ Otakon

    Greetings my friends!

I wanted to share with you that the AbleGamers Charity is going to be bringing our Pachinko for Charity to Otakon, Aug 9-11 at the Baltimore Convention Center. Who is going?

We did this at PAX-East and raised $17,000. We are going to bring 8 pachinko's and see what we can do.

    Hello happierr,

I have been running a Pachinko for charity setup at Nan Desu Kan for a couple years now. Good to see it's catching on. I know of a few other setups as well on the circuit, hopefully we can do some good with this.

What machines do you have for your setup. I'm trying to see what trends or IP's make for the best donation totals.

I wish I knew all the ones I have.
    Kung Fu Panda
    Superman
    Ghost Busters
    Eve 7
    Star Wars (with the C3P0)
And 3 very Japanese ones that I am not sure of, but man they look great. Will post pics.

We have 2 x 6 foot tables with a weight limit of 1500 lbs, each table has 3 loaded, counter high so you do not have to bend. We have one 4 with 2 that is lower for our friends in wheelchairs.

We are converting all of them to coin operated this weekend with the help from Pinball Dave who helped with the setup, and a friend of mine is flying home from Japan with 5 and 10 yen coins for us to use.

    Should be great!

I love the idea! I have only seen Pachinko machines at 1 convention on the east coast ever and that was this year. I don't know if I can make it this year but I will spread the word!

We are coin enabling them, and we are building out the "side panel" that has the coin slot in it, what do you think?

Jerry. The donation level we came up with looked like this. $5 for 50 balls, $10 for 100, and $20 for 300. The machines are stock, so they play just like they did when they came out of the parlor. Pinball Dave helped us make them coin operated. We learned at PAX that the amount of time that we were spending weighing the balls and so on was EPIC, so making them coin operated should be a huge step forward. We are using some tokens in the coin opps.

The state of Maryland has some very strict laws around charity raffles, so we are still working with our lawyer to see what our options are. In Boston we had a bunch of prizes, and the one that turned in the most "prize" balls was entered to win an iPad Mini. We hope to do something like that...

KimbaWLion, look for me, I will be the tired looking guy at the Pachinko booth, I go by the name Mark in public, in private my friends call me Mark too.

We are going to be in the GAME ROOM. Stop by and support a great charity. You can check us out ahead of time, ablegamers.com

Okay well we are all packed up and ready to go. I wanted to post a video of the final product (one of eight). Here is what I did.

    - Made new stands, mainly because with the addition of the coin side panels, we needed wider stands than we used at PAX-East
    - I made a side panel to hold the coin acceptor (1 x 4)
    - Routed out a hole so we could mount the coin acceptor
    - Made graphics to go over the side panel that was appealing
    - Mounted the main body to the new stand, and mounted on the side panel

I am using a 6 coin selector and the CR Emulator from Pinball Dave. The electronics cost about $50 bucks each. At the moment the one I am showing you will spit out 100 balls for a quarter, and 50 balls for a dime. I posted a short video so you can see what we ended up with

    Hey there!

I am fairly new to Pachinko collecting, just got the bug a few months ago.

I live just outside Baltimore, and have a CR Rave machine (probably one of the most colorful/active machines I've seen so far) and may have a LotR one in the next few days. (Working on a deal to pick it up Wednesday) I know LotR isn't considered one of the more exciting machines, but in an environment like that I think a lot of people would play it just based off the theme.

If interested I could certainly loan them out to help support the Charity.
