    Smile Pachinko Games & Counter

    _SC04315.jpg _SC04316.jpg

Thought now is a great time to start a thread about a pachinko machine topper with games and a counter.

Inspiration for the project has come from many pachitalk members and especially the GAKU counter.

This first post is a video showing the components involved. As of this post's date, the topper is installed on three vintage pachinko machines in my possession and one is installed on Card Shark's Power Flash.

Some history: the GAKU counter was really targeted towards cyclic, modern pachinko machines. The GAKU counter uses two FAIRCHILD PHOTOTRANSISTOR REFLECTIVE OBJECT SENSORS, #QRB1134, to sense SHOTS and WINS. The sensors need to be placed at strategic locations to work reliably. The GAKU counter utilized DIP switches to vary the amount of points awarded per WIN pachinko ball sensed. Pachitalk member, Musky, bought the remaining GAKU counters and sells them (very reasonably priced). My contribution to the GAKU counter is a housing and face plate that can be customized to a specific pachinko machine. The GAKU counters are available through member Musky and the housings are available on pachinkoplanet.com or eBay.com.

This thread is about a similar product that uses the same sensors and is backwards compatible with the GAKU counter's sensors.

To see some machines with the Pachinko Games & Counter, just look through the threads in the pachinko modification forum.

Some pachitalk members have expressed interest in purchasing the topper. Eventually it will be listed at pachinkoplanet.com and on eBay.com. Send a private message if desire to use some of the components on your own projects.

This topper utilizes an Arduino platform with a printed circuit board "shield". An effort is made to offer a fully assembled product that would not require soldering, yet could be easily customized to match a specific pachinko machine or decor.

    Components:

    PACHINKO - Nishijin Model A, 2005 Newgin Cutie Honey, 2015 TAKAO Queen's Blade 2
BUBBLE HOCKEY - SUPER CHEXX PRO | MAME - 4 Player Entertainment Center
    PINBALL - Williams Grand Lizard

I had thoughts about selling this game topper but have now decided to go the "Open Source" hardware route.

What does that mean? If you're interested in building your own; this is the thread to talk about it.

I'm hoping that members with interest will build upon the idea or go off in their own direction.
The caveat is that it has to be open source, any modifications, improvements, etc. should be posted on this thread.

I'll start with a post (soon) on the components and a link to the source code.

    Attached is a component list.

I hope to have more information (source code) available on another website soon.

Although I'm going to maintain this thread; the attachment limitations make it somewhat difficult to post everything here.
    Not complaining!

    Will have a link soon...

Max was kind enough to dedicate a page on his website for downloads. Including source code for the printed circuit board and the Arduino program

Sounds interesting. I've thought about adding a small microcontroller (leaning toward beagle bone) to my pachinko as well. How do the games work? I'm new to the scene, so I am perhaps, a little clueless when it comes to possible variations on older mechanical games.

    [edit for content]

I'm a freelance programmer and have recently completed an old-school photo booth with an arduino. If there is any work needed on the coding side, I would be happy to assist (although the package looks fairly complete already!). Thanks for your work CarlW!

Nice work! It's pretty amazing that you got all that functionality from a little arduino. Looks very professional, especially with the artwork.

I think it would be fun to add sensors to the individual buckets to add a 'bucket attack' round, skill shots, and maybe even a solenoid to trip jackpots on different conditions (not just with the ball).

That does sound like a fun game to me. Some of the other members prefer the original games' intent; to each his own.
Suggest you use a MEGA because it has enough inputs. And suggest you use a servo or a stepper motor instead of the solenoid; 5V components are simpler to accommodate and don't generate as much feedback.

i restore motorcycles as well, so i am in tune with the 'restoration to original state' mentality, but i don't see much value in that since vintage pachinko machines are still so common. if i simply clean it, i may as well put it in a museum.

using a servo is a good suggestion, i will probably do that instead.

This is the Arduino shield PCB. Set up to allow the additional sound board to be plugged in.

Smile Pachinko Games & Counte - Touch Screen Version

    Another fun project.

Thanks GMWD for the 3D printing!

This is a touch screen version of a pachinko counter, loosely resembling the GAKU counter.
    All the colors are adjustable.

The housing is 3D printed, the side boxes are optional for artwork and a LED ring.

Newhaven Displays just updated their product line, so another version is on the drawing board for 2018...
