Default Hey Guys! Got four more machines... should I bother? Please help!

Hey guys, I picked these four machines up from a buddy. They all need a lot of TLC, are they worth it? Does anyone know the values and what they are? I am looking for info:

    1) What are they worth restored?
    2) Who makes them?
    3) Can I get parts?

I truly do appreciate any help guys, I just got into Pachinko and am snaggy everything up!

Questions 1 & 3 I'll let the US based members answer, as the market in the UK is totally different

    2) The makers names are all on the front, so looks like you got two by Kyoraku and 2 by Nishijin

I always like the bright colours of the Kyoraku moderns

This one, called a "Rolling Stone" is one I have been keeping an eye out for. Several members seem to like it a lot.

As far as value goes. That is hard to say without knowing if they are missing parts and how well they work. They all look to need a good cleaning, which is not unusual. If I were to guess, I would say up to $50 each.

    should I bother?

That's a good question. If you are looking to make money on them, I'd say no. Almost every restoration is more a labor of love than a profit venture. I put over 200.00 in restoring my Nishijin Model "A" and likely would not be able to get it back.

Most people on E-bay over value their vintage pachinko machines based on the prices of similar fully restored machines, which is nonsense. A fully restored machine has an asking price of 750.00 to 1500.00 but these unit rarely sell. They are priced to factor in the labor required to restore them, not what they can get for them.

Most of us here restore and clean up old pachinko machines because we love the process of taking an old, poorly maintained machine and bringing it back to it's glory. If we can sell them for what we put into them, then great. If you are one of those people, then yes, you should bother. Just don't fool yourself into thinking you've struck a gold mine and will cash in for thousands.

Oh no, I'm not looking to sell and make profit... I just started getting into these machines as I love anything mechanical. The only one I may sell is the first one, electric, as I really only like mechanical stuff. I'll most likely keep #2 and #4.

Since I have a soft spot for Nishijin A's, then for me #4 would be a no-brainer, #2 is a Nishijin B and although I had one as a kid, B's aren't my favorites, but the "rolling stone" is unique, so I think I'm with you and would keep the Nishijins.

My preference would be the 1st one, I love the look, the colours,

But then I do have a Kyoraku of this style stored at the moment

dates around early to mid 80's I believe, and loud in colour and sound

    My new Kyoraku

I should really get that one out to play next I think

I have a Kyoraku as well and I enjoy playing it.KyorakuFront.jpgKyorakuBack.jpg. It had a few issues with the solenoid that opens the center tulip but that was just because it was all gummed up. There were some nasty cigarette burns in the tray CigBurnTray.jpg20130226_132607_resized.jpg20130226_133458_resized.jpgCigBurnTrayFinish.jpgbut I managed to sand and polish them out. The siren can get obnoxious with a super jackpot "fever". For an early modern, it has all the charm of a vintage with a few extra bells and whistles.

You mean there are pachinko machines out there that DON'T have cigarette burns on them?

All the one's I have owned have them. It's almost like a rite of passage they need to go to.

The two I own now have them in the bottom of the lower tray...Really? I mean, the ashtray is right there...why put your smoke out in the lower tray?

They are pretty deep, so no chance to buff em out. But then again, I don't mind them, Kind of reminds me where they've been. Of course if they were in more obvious places, I'd probably have to do something about it...

There's room in the garage for both. A vintage is like a sweet 66 Mustang Convertable. She's easy to work on, looks great when restored to her former glory and is great for cruising around with the top down. A modern is like a Ferrari Testarossa. You don't dare mess with whats under the hood, is almost unrecognizable as a car, but when you fire her up, prepare to be blown back into your seat, just hang on and enjoy the ride.

I think these three pix from my Gaku Counters say it best:

neat stats.. it would be interesting to see how they average over several thousand balls more
