Smile GAKU WIN Sensor replacement with a debounced microswitch

Have a GAKU counter on a vintage machine and a desire to use a microswitch instead of the supplied WIN Sensor?

Here is a way to debounce a SPECIFIC microswitch using the supplied connector and an additional resistor, capacitor and switch.

If a different model switch is used; try a different size resistor and capacitor if results are not consistent.

Every time the switch is pressed, the GAKU counter reads 1 WIN.

Ah yes! Dreaded contact bounce! I know it well.

The circuits we used to debounce switches used a capacitor, a resistor, and a Schmitt trigger IC. This increased the complexity and parts count, but you didn't have to fudge resistor or capacitor values for different switches.

All this stuff brings back some memories. I haven't touched a lot of this in over 20 years.

I'm sure I can search for it on google but what would that circuit look like for this application? I don't know what a Schmitt trigger is but it sounds inappropriate.

The orange wire is +5V, the white wire is the "sensor" wire - if it goes to 0V - it counts! Blue and Green wires are ground.

I know what you mean. There's a water park in Texas called Schlitterbaun, I feel like I'm going to get my face slapped every time I say it.

Anyway, the circuit looks like this:

    dbounce4.gif

There's 6 Schmitt trigger hex inverters in one 7414.

Edit: Of course, if the inputs on the counter are Schmitt trigger inputs, none of this matters.

Sounds like an easy way to have EVERY machine "GAKU READY" ! You can have 1 counter, mount it in a box...and plug it into any machine that is set up!
