    Default Steampunk Pachinko 2

Ok now lets see about the wood frame and background. On the wood frame should I go with original, stain it to look like Oak, or stain it to look like dark Walnut?

As for the background should it be Black, Big Ben, or gears

And if you have any ideas let me know.

I love the gears background!!! I voted for the dark walnut frame but was thinking a metal frame would look really cool on it. (just a thought)

If it were me, I'd likely end up picking the gears image...but only assuming that I wasn't going to be using more gears on the tulips or mechanisms on the board. I just can't help but think gear spinners (an obvious choice) and possibly gear-adorned pockets on gear background gets a bit too repetitive. And there's more to steampunk than "just slapping some gears on it"

Myself, I could see a network of metal piping in the background, with the large objective (is it an objective? Hard to tell) a pressure gauge or similar. Maybe use some actual copper piping for the pockets at the bottom of the unit (Assuming it ends up being Rolling stone, it doesn't look like they're traditional tulips)

So we have copper tubing for the pockets, gears for the spinners, pipes in the background, which all lead to a pressure gauge in the centre. Bonus points if you make the machine blow off some steam when you hit a jackpot! Of course, finding the artwork might be difficult for such an arrangement so I guess this ends up being a "pipe dream."

    Just some thoughts!

How about a black ebony frame to go with the gears and such...

Yeah I'd suggest doing a darker finish (like an ebony). And maybe then you could take some sandpaper or something and thin it down in some spots. Or apply it thin in some areas and thick in others.

I'd also say to try to find another background. As the gears will be too busy and complex. And I don't think big ben will fit in right. So my choice is black for now. (haven't put in a vote yet though)

I had thought about doing a steampunk pachinko but I know I'll never get around to it so here's the ideas I had in mind. I like the dark walnut finish or even ebony. For the background I was thinking a photo or old artwork of a zeppelin over London.

Of course, gear spinners are a given. I also wanted to work in a nixie tube display. My original idea was to mount 2 nixie tubes in the center of the playfield behind a pair of aviator goggles and wire them to generate random numbers which, when a matching pair came up, gave a bonus payout. Or perhaps just a nixie tube ball counter might be easier.
