    Default Piggies!!

I'd like to introduce to you my new Guinea Pig friends!!

As some of you may know I haven't been too well lately, so on a trip out to a local pet store to cheer me up, I was surprised to be coming home with 2 cute little piggies.

They are babies at just 11 weeks old, although they look big already. I have been told they are Texels, which is a fancy long haired breed, so we'll see just how long and funky their hair gets as they grow

The paler 2 coloured one we have named Dougal, he is the biggest, greediest and definitely the boss.

The funky haired 4 or 5 coloured one is named Bertie (sort of Bertie Bassett as he is a bit of Allorts in the colour dept) he has a dark triangle of fur on his face

    here's a few pics:

As you may know, they don't have a tail! An old joke goes...you tell your friends that their eyes fall out if you hold them up by their tail...then you can chuckle as they search for one! Hope your health improves, and you feel better!

Wheek, wheek, wheek!! Get used to it!!!

Used to have guinea pigs years ago. The last one lived over 8 years. Had a few litters of pups, which are cool because they are born precocial.
    Spoiler

They love alfalfa, and timothy hay. Oh, and fresh picked dandelions, but not the ones growing by the motor way!
    Gotta catch 'em all Pa-chink-o

I have owned Guinea pigs for years and only owned Peruvian Guinea pigs! Yours is one of the newer breeds it seems since it was recognized in 1998... We still have one and call him Popsicle. He's male and as well as large and in charge so we also call him King Pig! He is demanding and when he whistles when he wants something, the WHOLE house shakes, he is 14 inches long... I have no handy pics so I'll post one I found as to what he looks like I'll post some new ones I'll take since my guy is a LOT bigger!

I used to keep guinea pigs just over 20 years ago, our first one, affectionately called 'piggy' was given to us by a neighbour whose children had sadly lost interest

She was an Abyssinian rosette variety and very very tame, she would sit on my lap and watch TV

We then met a gentleman who was a 'Cavy' show judge and we used to take the ones that probably never made the grade for showing, so at one point we had about 4

I've always wanted guinea pigs again, and now my children are older and can appreciate them too.

They are such lovely sweet pets, today they have been running about the hallway, it is a nice safe place for them to get some exercise, as it is still a bit too cold here to let them out in the garden, but hopefully the weather will be warmer soon

King Pig looks fantastic!! What a handsome piggie

Seems poor Dougal's hair is getting shorter on the back end and not longer, as Bertie seems to think he is a Barber!!

They have plenty of food, lots of variety, hay, fresh foods, toys, lots of interaction from the family, and get to run free every day in the large hallway (less wires and hazards for them to hurt themselves)

But still Bertie likes to nibble Dougal's hair!!

Seems it can be 'normal' for Guinea Pigs to do this?? (although i never encountered it before)

Dougal doesn't seem to mind Bertie nibbling his hair, in fact he just lays down and lets him

So not sure how I can prevent it, they get along great together - no bullying or anything and I don't want to separate them as I know Guinea Pigs can get very depressed - and they seem so happy together snuggling up and running and jumping with joy
