    Default Help Wanted, Wanted help!!

Recently bought the 'Wanted' machine discussed here ==> http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/pach...yo-wanted.html

This one has a payout problem, as in none of the pockets work.

I connected a daverob dongle to it, added credits, and it will dispense the loan balls, so I know the payout mech is good.

It has no error codes showing.

I disconnected and reconnected all the plugs.

Checked for continuity through the wires.

Just won't register pocket wins. Maybe a bad payout board?

Fortunately, every thing else works, and the machine can be played, even through fever rounds by using the ball loan button to simulate payouts.

Still would like to get this to work normally.

    Let's hear your thoughts!

    No problems with the trackwork.

*Naha13 - Thanks for the offer. I'll definitely let you know.

You say that you can play through a fever round if you press the ball loan button to get payouts. What happens if you don't press the button and there are no payouts during the fever round?

OK, I'm making an assumption that as you can play to a fever round that the machine will register a ball dropped into the pocket (ie you get the reels spinning and lights and sounds for all pockets), but there is no payout.

The cell CPU handles the pocket sensors and the reels and lights, and the payout CPU controls the payout and the dongle interfacing. Both of these appear to work OK in isolation, but there doesn't seem to be any communication between them for the cell CPU to tell the payout CPU to dispense the prize balls. This could be a problem with the cable connecting the cell CPU board to the Payout control board, or the electronic components that perform the interfacing on either of the boards.

On Sankyo Victory and Lumina machines the CPUs operate with normal 5v logic signals, but the connections between boards are buffered and operate at 12v. Assuming that these Tornado frame machines are similar, then a problem with the 12v supply to either board, or the buffer chips could cause communication problems. The buffer chips are usually located near to the connectors and will have 2003 or 2008 in the part number printed on them (equivalent to ULN2003 or ULN2008). You can use a multimeter to buzz from the cell CPU to payout control CPU connectors to the pins of the buffer chips to see which one handles the inter-board communications.

As long as you keep feeding the machine balls to shoot, then everything progresses as normal (using the ball loan was just to keep from running out of balls, sorry for confusion). Otherwise it will time out due to no balls in the jackpot door and return to normal play.

    Correct!

I found the payout board on my 'Let's Go By Train' is the same (and it works), so I swapped them out and still have the same problem.

I'll check the connectors over the next couple days to see what's up, then I'll post back.

Spent the morning going through the wiring and here's what I found.

Hopefully this will be of assistance to millermaster1 in his thread here=> http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/pach...problem-2.html

Checking the plug connecting the main CPU to the payout board, somehow missed it the first time. Pin 4 (counting the white wire as 1) and pin 5 were switched between the plug ends, so I switched those around. If/when Naha13 or someone else with this machine reads this, and can check to verify it would be appreciated.

    IMG_0469a.jpg

That didn't make a difference, so I started looking at some of the other wires. What I found was a little sub-board that had wobbly connectors.

    IMG_0474a.jpg

Found out that the traces were cracked on this board, so I replaced the socket with some shunt pins from Brian (NIT), and soldered some wire across the pins.

    Spoiler

Now the payout was working exactly like the problem millermaster1 has. Machine throwing error code 0, and paying out balls intermittently.

The reason the error code pops up is because the number of balls paid out is not correct, or payout is not expected.

I think there is a problem in the dongle connection because after I removed and reseated the dongle several times, it started paying out and acting properly. I had to push the dongle firmly to make sure it was seated tight!

I played a couple thousand balls, and the error never came back up.

Hopefully I won't have any more issues with this machine!

I checked my "Wanted" machine and you have it right.

Was kind of wondering that myself.

Only thing I could guess is that someone pulled the connection off sometime and maybe pulled those wires out and then put them back wrong.

Played again today to make sure all is well. Went through 2 fever rounds with no hiccups.

I think that about wraps it up for this ticket.

Thanks to everyone for their help/input!!
