Figured I should make some sort of formal introduction post. Long time lurker, first time poster and all that
The only reason I know about these machines is from a memory of finding one in a friend's basement when I was 6 or so. I was obsessed with things like Plinko on the Price is Right, and fiddly levers and buttons so it looked quite fun. Of course, they didn't actually have any balls for the machine, so I never got to play it. But the memory stuck with me to this day.
Eventually I found out what the machines were actually called, and found a local guy selling two of his machines. Ended up getting a Newgin Trio and a Masamura Super Deluxe (which he couldn't get to work) for $200 including about 800 balls. The Super Deluxe was easy to fix, the jackpot payout empty switch had a bar connecting it to the launcher removed, so it was just a matter of moving the lever into the play position. Found out that it was modified to drain balls back out front though; not sure how I feel about that.
The Trio is working fine, even though I didn't actually understand many of the rules with regards to the Fever mode. Of course, as I mentioned in another thread, it seems I'd only ever get a fever when I was out of balls in the front, which meant I spent most of my time fishing balls from the back of the machine to continue to play.
Of course, this forum's introduced me to the concept of Arrangeball and Pachislo... More machines to keep an eye out for. I do have at least one solace though; a pachinko machine seems to be cheaper than camera gear (my other big hobby)
