So did you get a battle counter along with your machine??

I was just thinking..Do you maybe mean the ball loan buttons and display on the front tray??

Those normally won't work on machines not in a parlor and are not needed for home play..

They can be made to work though and let you dispense balls from the rear tray to the front tray.. To do that you will need to replace the normal CR bypass dongle (the thing that lets a CR machine shoot balls when its not hooked up in a parlor) with one of the super awesome Card Reader Emulator dongles made by one of our members, daverob..

And here is what a battle counter looks like..

With the cut wiring harness and only a small number of balls, I'd suspect that the machine might have been modified to cyclic operation. When you shoot a ball onto the playfield, does it fall out of the back of the machine, or end up back in the shooter tray?

If it comes back out in the shooter tray, then you've got a cyclic machine, and it might be quite complicated getting it back to original 'parlour ready' spec.
