Default New to Forum, but not to Pachinko :-)

    Hello,

Just thought I would introduce myself. I am the proud, longtime owner of a Nishijin Model A pachinko machine, 1971, with floral playfield. Like many others here, I came across my machine at a flea market about 20 years ago, and bought it in non-working condition for $20. It took about 5 minutes to fix, the only mechanical issue was a jam in the jackpot queue. It has worked flawlessly since without a lick of maintenance, even under the duress of a hyper 5-year-old and several moves. For all of the mechanical intricacies, the fact that it still works so well 40+ years after manufacture really speaks to how well these were built.

I don't think there is anything particularly rare or special about my machine, except for indications that it was never used in a casino, as it has no expiration sticker, and the protective cover on the inner plexiglass is still intact with the original Japanese writing. It does appear to have been converted for AC power at some point with the installation of a transformer.

The only issues with the machine are that the outer glass is missing, there is a burn hole in the ball holder (isn't that what the ash try was supposed to be for?), and the housing on the transformer is starting to crack. No water stains are present, and with a good, proper cleaning, I think this machine could be a beauty.

I've recently become interested in these machines again, with an eye toward both cleaning up the one that I have, and toward adding to my collection, possibly starting with an even older machine if I can find one. I'm also considering building a cabinet for my current machine, and converting it to use battery power, which I think I should be able to do without any modifications to the machine itself (beyond disconnecting the transformer).

I think I will start with cleaning the cell - carefully.

    Great to be aboard!

Welcome aboard. I'm a fairly new member myself. I think you'll find that you have become part of a small (by internet standards) but enthusiastic group that love all things pachinko.

I'm also a newbee (I have three working machines) and I would say my Model A I like the most, because the balls recycle back into the machine during play. And for $20.00! I'm jealous!
