I used a battery case/charger called Mophie. They work great, but I had to give it to the wife...sorry

I have bought kits in the past to repair my iDevices as well. Like Sid suggests, don't be a cheapskate and buy the kit without the tools. The tools are a MUST!! A magnifying glass would also be helpful.

There are also third-party Mac/iPhone repair shops in most major cities that will replace the battery for you, if you don't want to be bothered doing it yourself. Sometimes the amount they charge can be justified, and other times not. Try doing a Google search on "iPhone Repair CityName " I used that search and found one near me that could replace to the broken glass on my iPhone cheaper than Apple could, and the phone was as good as new when they were done.

The Mophie cases are pretty cool and will provide many additional hours of battery life, however they do add weight and bulk to the phone.
