Default I'm Seeking Info on my Yard Sale Find

I bought a Nishijin SuperDX at a yard sale the other day. I'm curious to know exactly what it is I got. There's a tag on it that says AOI-UMI, but the face on my machine doesn't exactly match any of the ones I found online. It seems to work okay, but I haven't tried to connect it to a battery to check the lights, etc. It definitely needs more of the steel balls; it only came with 50 or so.

I tried posting pics but kept getting error messages. I'll try it again later.

Why don't you take a quick look at this thread to see what you might be doing wrong with the pictures. How to Post Pictures!!

Pictures are usually the best way to be able to get info.

By the sounds of it I think you found a Nishijin model A, Aoi-Umi. I can say the build year as it is either 1971 or 1974. (Also just another tid-bit of info. The 71 Aoi-Umi machine was made in the Kyoto factory instead of the Tokyo factory like the 74.) I not able to tell you the exact date though till I can get a rough idea of what the machine looks like.

If you have any questions or issues with uploading pics let us know. We'll help you out. And once again welcome to PT.

Sorry all, each time I try to upload a pic of this machine it comes across as a 2gb file and the upload errors out. I'm not sure why it's doing that because on my computer it's only 2300kb.

    Any suggestions?

2300kb is 2.3meg, which is still huge and not necessary.

Can you use an editor you might have, that came with your camera, or grab IrfanView (free on the Web) and shrink it down to a .jpg of about 3-500KB?

    cheers

Open the picture in paint or some thing. Save it as a .jpg and it should be smaller.

When I got a new camera I had the same problem. The easiest solution for me was to lower the resolution of the pics before you take them. Not sure on your camera, but on mine, I selected picture quality, and set it down a notch or two.

Thank you all for your suggestions and help in my issue with uploading pics. I just figured out how to use my editing software to make the file smaller. Thank you candyflip!

The first pic is attached to this message, and I'll minimize and upload the others soon as well.

Here are a few more photos of my yard sale find. I've been looking for something to resell for a decent profit and this is the first time I've found something that grabbed my gut as a super good deal. Based on what I'm reading on this forum, and hearing how cool you folks think they are, I almost hate to tell you guys that I only paid $15 (they were asking $20) for this machine...and it works!

It's pretty dirty, and I haven't tried to connect it to a battery yet, but I have played it. :-)

Oops. That is what I get for viewing pics from my phone. Actually build year is 73 I think. Odd. I don't remember the 73 machines to be Aoi-Umi models.

Also I wouldn't be playing the machine if I were you. I noticed the lens in the back has separated apart (see pic) and that could cause a ball jam. And it becomes a pain to unclog those.

Untitled.jpg The red arrows show what I'm talking about. Easiest way to fix it is to take off that cover. Which means removing the staples that hold down the cover. Nothing hard to do.

$15 is a steal. I usually don't buy a machine if it is over $30. I'm sure many members here can tell you I'm not lying.

Thanks for everyone's input. You guys are really awesome! What a great resource you have been.

mxfaiman - Thanks for pointing out the problem in the back. I saw the round orange piece and knew it was out of place, but had no idea where it went. As I said previously, I bought this machine last week because I thought I could resell it for a decent profit. I had never seen one before then. Any idea what it's worth?

Also, anyone have suggestions for where I can purchase more of the steel balls?

Value is hard to say. Right now with the lens being where it is you basically shouldn't play it so I'd say $20. But once you get those parts out you could probably get closer to $50-75. Or maybe a little more. I tend to under price things.

Many members buy balls from ebay seller goldenstatetraders1. They list many auctions and they usually sell for cheap. You need a minimum of about 500 to get the machine working properly.
