    Smile SANKYO LED Lights Project

This is a SANKYO, later model, vintage...

Always thought this style could use more lights. This is the prototype!

    Looks good Carl.

I would have done that if I owned that style Sankyo.

What did you use for it? LED strip lighting?

I have been thinking of doing something similar to the 73/75 Nishijin Model B. (see below) I have been thinking of putting strip lighting through the plastic surround. As when I took one apart I saw it was notched all the way down and it looked to be the right size for strip lighting. I'll get around to it some day.

    Hi Max,
I used individual LED's: bent the LED leads, made a wood template for positioning the bulbs and soldered the LEDs to solid bell wires.

    Nice CircuiT, by the way!

Here is a video but it doesn't show the back of the LEDs...

Man that sounds like a lot of work. But it came out looking great.

Glad you like the circuit actually that is the worse one of the 2. The other one has all its stickers.

Does your CircuiT work? Had one at one time and it just kept blowing capacitors...

My LED project took a couple days to think through and about 1 hour to do the work...

Bought a package of 100 LEDs for $4 on eBay and enjoy using them up... next is a Model B.
Used a big piece of balsa about 3/8" thick, it is easy to drill, and holds the bulbs.
Then the balsa wood template protects my work table from solder damage...

That one doesn't. Mopar says the diodes are blow. Keep questioning him on that though. The other one I have works fine and I have been playing it for quite a while. (using test balls as it is still filthy.) No problems with it so far. (knock on wood.)

That doesn't sound too bad. The hardest part is just figuring out the question, "how am I going to do that?"

Nice! Gives me some Ideas for lighting the reels on my Mills. Now I have to see how many volts the transformer is putting out and trying to figure what resistance to put in.

    Looks cool.

I think it could use a few more LEDs. You could have stuck some in the all 10 badge.

hmm... That sounds good... Have to drill holes through the badge... What would the purists say? ;-)

    Good question!

There are 8 LEDs for the "low reward tray" switch and 19 LEDs for the jackpot switch. Replaced the leaf switch with a micro switch on this machine...

Here is a link to an "action" video. Did you think it would look better to leave the lights on all the time??

Very nice! I don't care for always on lighting, but if it were easy to add a simple circuit to make the jackpot lights flash in sequence. Clockwise or counterclockwise, as a group not individually. Now that would be cool! Great job, nice looking machine!

I used "bell" wire, solid conductors, to hold the LEDs in position and provide something to glue to the plastic. The solid wires were attached to stranded wire to connect to the switches.

Anyhow, your desired circuit is REALLY simple with an Arduino. My favorite flashing LED sequence would be the one from the "Knight Rider" car "KITT". Each LED would require two wires. The mounting wires would need to be insulated between the LEDs, but what a great idea. Now, where can I find another DAIDO?

i think the lights are great just how there are.. (if some were on all the time then you would not see the jackpot or low ball lights as well...)

but if i had a complaint.. can ya delay the jackpot lights more so they light when the bell rings??? (ya i know Picky Picky)

    and

whats in the lower left corner?? can ya put a jackpot bulb in there as well??

either way it looks really nice.. and I'm a purest

having the lights cascade from top to bottom might be a cool effect since the jackpot balls drop out the lower section

They could be on all the time and then chase around when you got a jackpot..Maybe a different pattern depending on the pocket..Make it so!!
