I have 2 true ball gauges. And I love them. I have been thinking about getting a hammer for a while. Though I have a nice brass headed one that gets the job done.

I originally wanted a whole box set but once I saw the price I decided not to get it as I didn't think I would need everything.

I don't need to go do that. I know just as much as they do about nails. In fact I have been able to get nails straighter on vintages then when they were originally put in.

I don't think it is about straight! If you have 2 pockets side by side, and made 1 loose and 1 tight...straight nails above would not favor either side, not taking the arc of the ball into consideration. The object of the nail doctors is to make the nail NOT straight, so that it will favor the loose pocket or the tight pocket.

well the ball gauge space tester thingy ended at £46-11 GBP (plus £5 p&p)

Wow!! (maybe I should have picked up the Sankyo boxed sets I was offered years ago )

In US dollars that is about $75 plus about $16 to ship to USA! Guess I'm gonna have to make one after all! The hammer is still only $1.95, but still has 4 days to grow!

Already worked for the family construction company for a couple summers as youth. I can drive a framing nail through 1" plywood into a floor joist with 1 tap and 2 whacks every time. No squeaky floors here.
