    Pachinky,

Perhaps it was an attempt to translate the term side trough into a phonetically spelled word.

The early games were littered with misspelled English words.

It was considered exotic and fashionable to have games with foreign writing on them.

We do the same here with yin yang symbols, kung fu terms, product names such as the Samurai by Suzuki. It seems all of the Las Vegas upscale hotels bear exotic names(Venetian, Paris, Rio, Mirage, Caesars).

Bilko44: Great info on the side tross. I worked for a Japanese firm and it was amazing how things were translated. I could only imagine translating the Kanji symbols that are used in Japan. I was in Tokyo for a few weeks about 10 years ago and got to go into a pachinko parlor. I would use the term electric to describe the place. It was very alive and I did not do as well there as I do on the machine in my home. Go figure. Have a great B-day! Watch for my email close up pic of the side tross.

put a tire tread across pachinky's frog and he would look like fresh road kill with his limbs still twitching.

the parlors in japan adjust the pins so the machines don't pay out too good.

at home we can adjust them to pay better.

I hear roadkill frog is a delicacy somewhere. After looking closely it does resemble a recently smashed frog. Reminds me also fo the biology experiments we did with the frog leg and a battery to show the movement.

I agree, it looks more like an owl to me.

BTW, when that single ball goes into the side tross and it closes up until a ball down the center once again reopens it, what happens then? Do you get a payout from the ball that goes in there?

More detail on the side tross function. As mentioned the center top hole activates the side tross to open. Each time a ball goes into the center top hole only one side opens and the next time a ball hits the top hole the other one opens. When a ball goes into the side tross there is a payoff and also the bottom center flap/flipper opens. Once a ball goes into the tross it will close until the next cycle. Obvioulsy it is good to hit that top hole as the opportunity to get payoffs increase greatly. To be honest, this is an easy machine to win at. If you notice above the top center hole, it looks like someone removed a couple of pins. I have thought about getting pins and putting them back in, but my kids and friends seem to like winning at it. Imagine that. Since finding pachitalk my interest has peeked about pachislo and the newer pachinko machines. Slotter, I would love to get an experienced player's view on pachislo. I've never played it. I have played the slots in Vegas and it looks similar. Also, I would like to hear some opinions on what makes the newer pachinko machines better and more addicting than the old.
    What is BTW?

Thanks for the clarification! Yes I feel stupid not figuring that out. By the way I was checking out the museum site and noticed your map that has the Kanji translated. That took some time I bet.

Guess all I can offer is how much I enjoy the Pachislos as well as the Pachinkos, Mr. pachinky. (Like your upgraded name!) The Pachislos actually are more fun than the Vegas machines simply because you do have some control of them at times when in certain modes. To me, there is something special about holding the tokens, having them bounce into the tray, etc. And, as far as the newer Pachinko machines, they have come a long, LONG way from the vintage one you have. They have the flashing lights, sounds, and more to really intrigue and tease you. You won't regret getting either a late model Pachinko or a Pachislo machine. In fact, you need one of each just to find out that you probably need more than one of each.

    Hey Pachinky,

Be careful about listening to Slotter. He tells you all this stuff that seems to make sense at the time, but, before you know what has happened, you will find he has talked you into buying many thousands of balls and many, many different machines to go with the balls. Next thing you know, you are hiding things from your wife and living in fear of discovery.

    Best wishes,
    Dave Wile

    Hey folks,

Come to think of it, Arby is also a bad influence on me. Since he is in Iowa also, maybe I could visit with both of you when my wife puts me out.

    Best wishes,
