Question cyclic machines in computer driven cabs ie. Computer Pachinkos!

I know Aaron will raise an eyebrow at this one.

I have my eyes on some 'computer pachinkos' at present here: they are cyclic and in cabs that are coin-controlled and computer driven.

My question is simple: in your experience, can these cells be removed from their cabinet life support system and be returned to normal, non-arcade home operation?

    image

I'm certain that the ball release, for example, is currently controlled by the coin/computer mechanism. What happens when I unplug the cell from all that - she should stop working completely, right? How do I kickstart her back to life : a simple plug being re-attached on the cell main board? (I hope)

    thanks all

I don't own one and have never seen one, But I would expect the ball release to be an add on to the frame and not use any of the original pachi payout system, As thes are located too high and the only way it could use them is if it had a ball lifter to refill the tank above the payout motor.

That pic looks like a newer machine, So a guess a dongle is needed, Some of the wiring from the cel to the frame might be missing or tampered with ie the original payout signal , and any pocket sensors could probably be diverted (like on a desktop) Its a mystery

WOW! That looks complex! I was thinking that the older computer pachinko's would be hard, because they were so far removed from mechanical versions. However this might be easier, due to the modern electrical system, but you would probably have to be Daverob to pull it off! You might be able to do it...but it scares me!

Yes, I'm not a computer whiz when it comes to pachis, especially Moderns of this ilk.

It was tempting, as the titles were sweet :

but it was either take them all, or none. After having a good look at one of them with the back off this morning before work, I had to pass.
To much capital for too much risk that I couldn't get these working outside the cabinets again.
Someone, probably in Japan, had done a LOT of work getting these up to arcade-speed and I didn't fancy the backtracking to get them back to 'original'.

He has some arcade guy in Sydney who might take the lot, for use in an arcade again. Probably best he does.

    <sniff>...

I decided to take the risk, offered the Seller to take the lot for 20% less than stated, which he accepted. Pick them all up next week (I will keep at least 1 in the original coin cabinet for later sale, the rest I will disc-connect).

Now - gonna need all your help to figure out what the hell I've done here!!!

Re-thinking keeping them in the original cabs, at all.

    1. Coin mechs have been ripped out. You can manually add credits. 1 x Credit buys 400 balls, which count down by 1 after each release of the shooter spring (ie. a ball does not need to enter the playfield, and sometimes doesn't, for the ball counter to decrease anyway)
    2. Winning a jackpot, or getting enough points (not sure how many is 'enough' yet) releases a prize ball (plastic egg with paper inside) at the very base of the machine. This is for the arcade operation from whence they came. The paper inside appears to be like a fortune cookie, all in Chinese. Not sure what arcade players won with that?
    3. All the machines are in very good condition, considering the environment where they came from. They make 'em tough!
    4. All are cyclic.
    5. All come with Battle Counters already installed (6 count).
    6. All come with step-down transformers (6 count).
    7. ALL the transformers have had their power cords severed before the plug, and the plugs disposed of.

    Pics when I have 'em.

I should add, it is HIGHLY likely that I'll be selling all these machines, or at the least, each cell (I need the Misoru Hibari frame as I want to replace the cell with Tanukichi-kun 2006).

so if you REALLY want one of these, and are prepared to have it expertly shipped from Australia at cost, I might be able to accomodate you.

Just had a play with them before work, at the warehouse I'm buying them from.

    1. I can open the frame door on the Kyoraku's easily, but the Sankyo's (4 of) seem very stiff indeed and I need to be able to open the frame to remove them from the computer cabs. Ideas on that?
    2. None of the frames have feet of course. What do people use to make homemade feet? I have some free wood from the cabinets I am removing them from, so I guess I could fashion something from those?
    3. The transformers seem to be missing, or do the recent moderns like these not have the transformer down the bottom of the frame like the 90's classic modern models?
    4. Without the keys (all machines), I can't seem to get any of the cell doors open. I can't even find a lever at the back (Kyoraku or Sankyos). Is it a different mechanism on these recent Moderns?

Some of these newer moderns are really squeezed in. On my maison ikkoku and sea story you can't get to the lock catches and a key is a must.

uh-huh... looks like I might need to purchase some keys to go with those cells I just got on YJP.

If I was going to build something like this, Heres, what I would do, It may help in converting them back to normal (cyclic) use.
But first a couple of questions

If no credit after 400 shots does the shooter stop working or does the balls get stopped from making it to the shooter hammer?

If the shooter stops. It may have been disabled at the dongle. Just replacing that with a normal dongle would solve that problem.

A switch (micro. optical or other) attached to the shooter assembly would be the easiest way to count shots. Remove the switch and wiring back to the expansion board.
Counting the wins. I guess the video reels work on start pocket activation. So the start sensor to circuit board hasn 't been messed with. If it was me wanting to count pockets, I'd take an input from the battle counter .
Do the other pockets add to the credit count or just the start pockets? Not that on a cyclic machine these help very much though as you don't get the winning balls.

I think it should be possible with minimal work to get them back to a standard cyclic machine. Even just by removing all the extra wiring and sticking in a standard dongle
    Then just need some feet

Oh damn - all the locks are non-standard and have been replaced with cyclinder arcade locks for the door area!!
Now all those CR original keys I have coming from Japan were a waste! should have checked thoroughly, first.
So will either need to get keys cut for the exisiting locks, or replace the lot.

The power supply is interesting - no machine has it's own transformer ob-board at all. Instead, they each have a Step down transformer (240v -> 110v) in the base of the compuetr cabinet (at least 2 feet away from the back of the machine they need to reach), with power outlets for the battle counter and the machine built into the cab, so that they could then plug the transformer straight into Aussie mains (240) from the back of the computer cabinet and have the machine run at 110 (this is the power cord that had been cut behind the plugs). The system is too complex to transfer lock-stock to the back of each pachinko, so I'm going to have to buy new smaller 240v transformers for each and install, I think.

    I'll post pics next time.

I'm going to do a new thread for the strip-down of one of the machines, whole (Hissatsu Shigotonin III).

    Same forum location (Pachinko Modifications).
