    Default Newbie Cabinet build

I'm both new to this forum and a new Pachinko owner (though played back in the bad ol' 70s...). CarlW restored the machine I now proudly own, and encouraged me to post these pictures of a cabinet I built for the machine. This is my one and only foray into carpentry/ woodworking, so for what it's worth, here's the result:

    Welcome to PachiTalk!!

Very nice looking pachinko, and you have set it off beautifully in that wall-mount cabinet

Great handiwork and it looks perfectly at home in your games room too!!

Welcome to pachitalk! Beautiful cabinet you made! The French cleat (I believe that is the correct name) seems to be one of the better ways to surface mount the cabinet to the wall! Especially if it spans, and is secured to 2 studs. And of course, keeping track of your beer is always a good thing! I haven't built any cabinets for my pachinkos, as I plan to build a stud wall 6" in from an exterior wall and mount them flush. This presents many difficulties that I haven't worked out in my head yet. So many other projects to do 1st. Can't wait to start, so I can get it done and enjoy! The pachinko fits your Pinball Alley theme...and takes up less space! SO...you have room to add more! Trust me...you can't help it!

So that's what they call it. I wonder why it's a "French" cleat? Perhaps best not to speculate... With a 22" cabinet, and 24" studs spacing, reinforcement of the wall was a necessity. I wanted a low profile mount though, which is also why a didn't include a hopper or ball shelf/drawer. Well, plus it was easier...

In the far corner facing the camera is a 1976 Bally Old Chicago machine; directly opposite the Cappa you can see part of a 1976 Gottlieb Buccaneer; in the near corner is a partial shot of a 1965 Gottlieb Bank-a-Ball, the first production pinball machine with a ball return lane to the flippers. Behind the door to the next room is a 1976 Gottlieb Sure Shot pinball and a 1982 Gottlieb Q-bert upright video game.

The drum set is my son's, and is a basic 5 piece Pulse drum set, with several nice Zildjian cymbals added. If he ever moves into his own place, it's possible that the space might get used for a couple more machines...

Very nice cabinet!! I also like the drink holders!! Very simple design, yet highly functional.
