Default Audio Boards - has anyone ever swapped them?

I have a Popeye and a Devil May Cry (Devil May Cry has English Audio) Pachislo both have the same internal layout and the same chip numbers.
I was wondering if there was anyone has ever swapped out the audio boards or the audio ROM chips between two such machines.

The audio board has some rom chips on it. ( I don't know if they have the audio sounds or are they on the CPU board.) If I swap the boards on the two machines will the audio go with the board? (will Popeye speak in English?)

If anyone has tried this please let me know the results.

    Thanks,
    RaymondT

Well I can tell you this, If you put the DMC chip into the popeye machine... popeye will not magically start to speak english.

Best case: Everything works and your popeye machine now sounds exactly like your DMC machine did.
    Mid case: Nothing happens
Worse case: you fry your audio board as well as ...well who knows.

    Thanks,

I was hopping for the best case...
I just want to identify the sound and or video chips. If I can find them I might be able to reprogram the machine by burning new ROMS.

I've received a Heiwa and Sankyo Pachinko games with the wrong sound boards, but from the same frame family, and they both played fine ... with the wrong game's sounds.

It was kinda funky and it took me a little while to catch on to the mismatch.

In both cases, the flipped sound boards were electrically identical but with differently programmed chips.

    Thank you!!!
That is what I wanted to know.
I will now take each chip and see if I can find the sounds in the ROMS.

If you search the forums here. I know there was a thread or two with people that had ripped the raw pcm data from the chips. Not sure how much further that ever went.
