Default Cleaning the glass on pachislos

What to use to clean the glass inside an out that will stop the particles of dust from clinging to the glass. No matter what glass cleaner I use that darn dust is attracted to the glass like a magnet. I have used different types of cloths and rags.

I wish the reel viewing area were glass at times as the plastic does does get a charge in it and attracts dust particles. I use a clean towel which I spray lightly with water just to make it slightly damp, but not wet enough to cause streaks. The very slightly damp towel should get rid of the static charge.

I use the little white disposable towels in a tube that they sell at Wal-Mart for LCD screens (monitors). They don't leave any residue behind. It's like $5 for a tube.

One thing that works for me is dryer softener sheets. Bounce or whatever, just wipe the glass with it. It's good for CRT monitor screens too. Keeps the crud from stickin'.

A good product for general machine cleaning is Plexus, an aerosol spray that's made for cycle windshields. Good stuff, a 7 oz. can lasts a long time for about $6.

After I receive them I clean the glass inside and out with Kit scratch out. It removes all dirt and smoke residue. I then mantain them with a swiffer brush and a Zerostat ionization gun.

This amazing little device known as the Zerostat Antistatic Gun is an antistatic "generator" which has numerous applications in any microscopy laboratory. Just squeeze the "trigger" of the Zerostat and a steady stream of ions is released. The "magic" comes from two powerful piezoelectric crystals and a patented compression trigger. Originally developed for removing dust from "vinyl" or before that, normal "phonograph records", in later years the Zerostat antistatic gun was discovered to have great applicability for use in a photographic darkroom to remove dust from film and negatives. After that, a wider range of applications came into being when people running SEM labs found out that it was also idea for eliminating dust from critical samples or other critical surfaces when the dust attraction was being caused by electrostatic charge. Others have reported that certain insulating specimens, when treated this way, can actually be viewed (admittedly briefly) by SEM without the need to apply further coating.

I purchased mine awhile back from a used record store when records were a dying breed. He had about twenty of these brand new for five bucks each. If I knew how much they would have sold for today I would have picked up all of them.I purchased it for use on my records. It also works great on cd's and almost anything else that has a static charge buolt up on it.

A quick thought off top of my head, don't know for a fact that it would work but might suggest using it on an inconspicuous part that won't damage your art work.

Try some of the cleaning cloths for cleaning electronics and computers. Endust and Pledge, I think, make them. Should be able to find similar, maybe generic or store brands at CompUSA or OfficeMax. I would assume that these are designed to be anti-static as they are often used on video monitors and computers. Items that are notorious for having static charges that attract dust, or items like computers that can be sensitive to static damage.

    Quick and anoying science lesson...

One plastic spinning rappidly near another unlike plastic or insulator = static machine. Whimshurst 101... (The device that boggled even the creator.) I think that is how you spell it?

Any-who... You can discharge this static a little by making sure that your machine ground is hooked up to the power-cord ground. (Your cord does have a ground wire right?)

As for a quick remidy... cheap and effective if a ground wire is hooked up. Rub a pencil onto a sheet of paper to make a big dark circle. A true #2 pencil only, not those pencils with plastic in the graphite. Rub a soft cotton cloth in the graphite a little, and then rub it onto a clean sheet to remove excess graphite. Use this graphite littered cloth to lightly clean the plexiglass or glass. The static will diffuse through the graphite and remove the static cling dust.

Most window cleaners contain "Anti-fog" oils which attract and help dust stick. Use 50% diluted alcohol and a soft cotton cloth to clean glass and 10% diluted alcohol to clean plexiglass. (EG, 10% rubbing alcohol and 90% water.) The rubbing alcohol is already 70%, but ignore that... you want 10% of that 70% solution.eg.. 7% true ratio.

You should clean less frequently and with a lower alcohol concentration on plastics. Window cleaners contain high alcohol and amonia and oils... (For bathroom mirrors only.)
