Default Olympia Excellence Twist, fuse blows

I have what I think is a bad circuit board, actually I believe it is where the on/off switch connects to the circuit board, the machine keeps blowing fuses as soon as it is switched to the on position, however I am unsure if this is the problem or something else. Any ideas?

Welcome to Pachitalk! Where in VA are you located? I live in Midlothian, just outside of Richmond.

Can you post a few pictures of the machine (inside and out) might help with figuring out what is going on. Also, has the machine worked properly in the past or is it a new acquisition?

    Hi there

    Welcome to PachiTalk

I presume this is a Pachislo machine? I will move thread to Pachislo section for you

There are 2 that I know of called 'Twist' both made by Olympia

PachiTalk Research Center - Olympia - Twist - PachiTalk

PachiTalk Research Center - Olympia - The Twist - PachiTalk

if you could identify which one is yours, then this will hopefully help the members offer some specific trouble shooting advice to you

Welcome to pachitalk . have you checked the voltage output of the power transformer. If it's over 24 volts it will blow a fuse. Check that first, then go from there.

It's call "Twist" I lived in Chesterfield County from 1987-1992, in Woodland Pond, Old Squaws lane, off of Beach Road. I'll put some pictures up.

I am in Chesterfield County now. I live in Woodlake. Do you still live near Chesterfield?

In the quick reply box for posting to the thread, you will see a bar of buttons at the top. Click the third one from the right and then follow the prompts. File size can sometimes be an issue.

Did you check the voltage coming out of the transformer like Yose pointed out? That would be a very good place to start. Also, have you had the machine for awhile? I am wondering if it has worked properly in the past for you.

Follow the power cord into the machine, the transformer should be the first thing it connects to. If I am not mistaken the machine is designed to run on 24 volts.

Another thing that you might want to check is all of your connections. They can work themselves loose. I am just guessing and am certainly no expert, but a short somewhere could be causing the fuse to blow. I am sure there will be other members along soon with a lot more expertise who can be of better help.

    Pictures will most likely help.

If you are still having trouble posting them, I can PM you my email address and try to post them for you on this thread.

If it was working fine but not now, it either has a bad transformer,if there is one before the power box, that the wall cord goes to ,or a bad switch that is shorting out ,or a loose wire at the switch that is grounding out.You may have to open the power box up and check the wires there.JUST MAKE SURE IT'S UNPLUGGED before you check anything electrical.Usually when a fuse blows right off it's a power input problem or a shorted switch, because the fuse is the first connection of power to the machine. If it was the wall cord it would trip a circuit breaker. It's the easiest way to find the problem electrically, start at the input, then work your way in.

As soon as I turn the switch on sparks fly and the fuse blows, sparks seem to come from the switch, how do i replace the switch, seems to be hard wired.

You should be able to maybe unscrew the front of the power supply box and open it up.Make sure it's unplugged.Look at the switch wires and see how they are connected to the switch. If you have to, you can cut the wires to get the switch out.You can get a new switch at any hardware store ,or radeo shack.Just disconnect the old switch and take it with you to get a new one to match as close as you can. Put in the new one.To make it easier I connect short wire leads to the new switch and splice them to the existing switch wires. You can crimp connect, or solder the wires together.Just make sure they are insulated from touching each other so they don't short out again.Just take your time and don't Panic .
