Japanese police statistics
found some interesting statistics from the Japanese police agency.
the police & gaming federation regulate 5 different types of machines, 2 of which are pachinkos & pachislots.
Dec.31, 1990 there were 16,704 gaming halls in all of japan. with 4,008,598 games.
Pachinkos were 3,233,065 & Pachislots were only 672,443. (oldest report I found).
Dec.31,2005 ;15,165 halls / 4,899,198 games. Pachinkos= 2,960,939 & Slots= 1,936,470.
Dec.31,2006; 14,674 halls / 4,937,381 games. Pachinkos= 2,932,952 & Slots= 2,003,482.
Dec.31,2011; 12,323 halls / 4,582,784 games. Pachinkos= 3,107,688 & Slots= 1,474,838.
seems when the "Government" decided to ban the type No.4 machines (most with the stock feature) ,on July 2004 (all No. 4's had to be gone by Sept.2007), many of the halls could not afford to replace those machines at once. many still were with in the time frame allowed to still have it. all machines after passing the police testing , ect. , get approved and they put a time limit on them, which is ussually 3 years (few were 2 , a couple were 4 years).
this clock started the day the maker got the machine approved. Any how many halls just closed up as the new law banned ALL No. 4 types.
Interesting to see the halls going down from the peak in 1990 And seeing the pachinko machines increased in the halls & pachislots went down.
I assume the space of the machines & the cost might be it.
The 3 other games were unfamiliar to me ,& those numbers are almost down to zero in 2011.
Sales in the halls are real bad over there , lots of deals on the tokens / balls. many offer meals in them for players. One had just built a group of shower stalls in it's hall ; so you can leave work , shower up , then play & eat before going home.
Big talk about building 3 Real casinos in japan , with the profits going to rebuild the country. sounds good but, might put out a few more gaming halls.
most of the companies we are familiar with, Do make slot machines ,or had in the past , for markets out side Japan. so they should still do well.
