Urgent Help! Machine wont spin Video included

My machine has worked for years and just stopped today. What's going on?
It eventually stopped spinning when it matched up with the line but didn't do anything.

Also, the buttons don't light up. I checked to see if they were stuck but they pushed down fine.

When I removed my reel assembly, I didn't get the connector completely inserted on one side and the reels acted in a very similar way, check the connection, pull it and blow out with air and reconnect it.

do the reels turn easily by hand, with the power off or are they binding??

they will reset themselves when you turn it back on

I had one where the light holder behind the reel had come loose and was rubbing

Yes they easily turn by hand (on or off) and it looks like its trying to reset (the first reel, the others dont do anything).

I really haven't worked inside mine at all, but are there any fuses you can get to? It just seems odd that a couple of reels and button lights are suddenly out.

That would be my guess at this: Either a fuse or a connector not making proper contact.

Actually the reels light up at the beginning of the game, it's just when spinning they act all bizzarro. I'm going back in there in an hour to see what else I can do.

try reseating all the cables going to your main computer board

Looks like the machine does not find the zero position of that left reel when booting up the machine. I'm not sure how your machine finds the zero position of each reel but usually it is made with optos.

Opto port is a switch which works like a light gate. There is a led light (or infrared led) and a receiver. Reel has a part which rotates trough the gate part and it breaks the light beam between led and the receiver.

Some machines have indicator leds for all button switches and optos on the main board or somewhere else. You will see them blinking when pushing all buttons. When you turn the reels gently by hand, in some point one led should blink inside the machine when power is on. That is the zero position of that reel. If indicator led is not blinking with that left reel or if your machine does not have indicators you may want to try these:

1. Check all easy things first. Reset the machine, check stuck tokens, fuses and such.

2. Check if the opto ports are connected, clean the led and reciever parts gently with a Q-Tip. Compressed air in a can is a bit risky. I have heard the very cold spray can break the plastic leds inside the opto.

3. Usually optos work with infrared light. You cannot see the ir light but it is visible to your digital camera or phone's camera (click the link to see examples). Ir looks purple when looking trough digital camera.

4. If all leds or ir-leds are working, problem might be at the receiver side of the opto. They usually don't break easily but it is possible. If the opto part and the cable is easy to remove, you can try to cross change the optos and see if the problem moves to another reel.

Okay I think this is what is happening. The last reel (right handed side) is rubbing against the plastic light holder. I just dont understand how this affects the whole machine. Anyway, how did you fix it?

i glued mine back in the right place with super glue

Thanks everyone! It turned out that it was a loose wire somewhere. I took apart the entire machine, put it back together (no parts left at the end ;P) and it worked right after I reset it.

I'm having the same problem with my Spin Luck machine incidentally. I found that the LED reel light array had fallen into the wheel, upon dis-assembly. Reseated it, and secured it in place with a dab of loctite, but the wheel was rubbing the cables. I took the entire thing apart this time, and found out that the wheel housing is cracked, causing the wheel to not sit properly on the motor, and the optical eye is split clean in two. My guess is that when the led board fell, the wheel was spinning and flung it into the optical sensor, causing it to break, and then the wheel itself got bound up and cracked. I am at work and can't post pictures, but does anyone know if I can obtain a new reel assembly? Were it not for the broken optical eye, I would just try and rig the wheel to balance properly. Is it even worth it, or do I now have a giant paperweight on my hands?
