It should ship from CA on or around the 30th June, and take 25-30 days to arrive in my hometown port of Melbourne.

Once I have the ship name, I can track it minute by minute across the seas using Google Maps (so cool) and show you where it's at.
We'll also be able to track pirate ships.

then at the other end, I'll show you photos of us unloading the whole container, and my few pachis within.

Let's hope they all make it in one piece!!

And Paul - there is actually 1 vintage machine on board!! I had to try it...

So is the entire container full of pachis or just a few?

Yes, serious. Always looking to expand the collection. Not for hoarding 's sake but for interesting arrangeballs and old single shots like the beautiful Hokuku on YJA that I didnt know about till too late. Defintielty woulda bid a sizable sum for that one. My current collection pretty much runs the gamut of the arrangeball "genre" but there's a couple I've seen only in Japan that I'd love to own and I know there's more out there...

    Yes mate - but how?

Is money no object for you?

    Quick calc on doing this:

** your costs to juno on buying your Arrangeballs and others : ??

** paying Juno to organise the freighting of the container (ie. he'll need to act as your foreign Agent, translating all your Group needs and effectively acting as the Project Manager on the ground) - conservatively, having just done this myself, he'll need maybe 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, for probably 2 months or however long you want to collate your machines for - so let's say he doesn't get out of bed or less than 2000 Yen an hour? 40,000 Yen a week, for 8 weeks = 320000 Yen to have him around doing all that work.

** 20 foot container shipped from Tokyo port to Long Beach (incl Customs, Duties, Taxes, Insurance) - approx US$5000 and I'm trying to be conservative on that. Comatsu Trading could give a much more accurate figure.

** distributing of pachinko machines to buyers across the USA - unknown, but you'd have to find a way to do it. In the spirit of the Co-operative that we have just run for our arcade machines container, we all chipped in to help those geographically disadvantaged souls get their machines (Queensland in the north, Tasmania in the south and so on). We'll probably spend around another US$1000 getting them out to everyone once landed. If you're importing the container just for your own machines, no problem - just the costs you have for getting from port to home base.

It's nowhere near cheap - which is why it almost never happens.

Good post. I think the bigger or biggest problem is finding the people with the money or willing to spend the money for the services and logistics you mentioned. I think a maybe cheaper way would be to have Juno or similar put out feelers for the types of machines we want and then over a period of months try and collect them as opposed to having him spend his time going out and searching for them. With enough people it could be cheap enough. Of course cheap enough is subjective and this hobby is not like pinball collecting where there are plenty of deep pocketed individuals that pay over 10K each for machines. That's just the reality of it. I'm not deep pocketed but I'd fork over a few grand for my share to have a container full of arrangeballs or whatever shipped to the US.

    Yes.

No disrespect to the Pachitalk bretheren, but my experience here of a few years leads me to believe that as you say, this ain't the Pinball collecting community.

Throwing around US$500 here and there is not something the bulk of members here do on pachinkos... (and it costs each of our Container Co-op members US$500 per container berth, on the one I'm currently shipping)

If you ever need help with getting one off the ground, I'd be in. But it might just be we two.

Love those two Defender uprights. It's sequel "Stargate" was and is my all time favorite arcade game. Robotron's a close second.

    Details came in early!

    Vessel: Kota Juta v. 233
Estimated Departure, Long Beach, CA: 6th July
    Estimated Arrival, Melbourne: 24th-26th July

    Vessel Link: http://marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdet...MMSI=477888000

As you can see from this link, she will cross the seas between Japan and the USA and reach Long Beach in less than 24 hours. Remarkable.

Right now, she's just off the coast of Hokkaido, lolling about in shallow waters before heading out.

Meanwhile, the container has travelled by train from Chicago to meet her.

Ooh, is that Track and Field?? I remember it was at the front of the arcade, but you could hear if someone was playing it all the way from the back!! Well that is until they put the little guards around the buttons so people couldn't pound them with their fists anymore!!

I haven't priced any classic arcade machines in awhile so I don't know about current prices. Back in the early. 90's I had a Tempest, Joust, and Stargate in my house and paid about 50 apiece. This was at the end of the arcade "crash" and games were plentiful. Fast forward 10 years or so and the kids that grew up playing them in arcades were now buying them and reliving some fond memories. The prices were crazy for a working game in decent shape-many, many times what I paid. Speculating here but 300 doesn't seem too bad for a working game now. Now that I have room I'd definitely like to pick up a couple of my from that era.
Apologies for the hijack CFlip. Gonna be fun cracking open that container in a month.
