    Default Ball Lifter

I stumbled across this site with a video of someone's ball lifter project. Looks like a nice design.

Yes it is the same person in both videos. Kinda clever design but it took a long time to make.

My Dad and I have been working on a design. Looks like the prototype will take a few hundred dollars to build and test. With the design we are working on, I think if produced in a quantity of 50 at a time, I could offer them for about $125 each. Do you think there would be enough demand to move 50 of these? My guess would be not, unfortunately to keep the production cost down I think 50 would be the minimum production size.

I am curious about everyone's thoughts on this.

sounds like ya got the price point way better..

but i would guess, selling 50 might be hard...

That is my concern. I think building it one at a time is going to my costs around $300 a piece. Honestly that does not bother me if it is just for my personal use. If I were to offer them to the public I would have to bring the costs down dramatically. The only real way for me to do that is in bulk. 50 units is probably the minimum number that would yield the type of cost savings I would need. I honestly do not think it would be realistic to expect to be able to sell that many units.

I couldn't begin to estimate costs on the rig I'm building, and I do that sort of thing for a living. Good thing I'm doing it solely for my own amusement.

I have been giving this more thought. I am only going to focus on my personal one for now. I am sure it will go through several rebuilds until I get it the way I want it. Once it is done, I think my plan after that will be to work up some detailed plans and parts list and then just publish it here for anyone who would like to build their own. I wasn't planning on turning a profit on the lifters and with the number of hours I work I don't think it would make much sense to go into the ball lifter business.

Not trying to hijack a thread. But I just thought I'd share my idea for a ball lifter.

I saw this video on youtube 120119 ball lifter prototype - YouTube Gave me an idea. Can I make it work on a smaller scale.

So I went into google sketchup. (odd using it I got so adjusted to using Autocad far more advanced.) And attached is what I have so far. Some motors might be able to be pulled out. But basically I plan to have it about that same as the video. Except I would replace all the surgical tubing going up vertically with a belt. Also I am still trying to figure out how to make the balls "funnel" out of the top and over into a tray.

Anyways just thought I'd share my idea. Who knows if I ever will get around to building one.

    Heh, someone saw my lift...

Well, there are many methods to make a ball lift. My goal is to use simple design and the motor power is not much needed. Worm wheel is most used for lift. It's also used for water pump (lifting water up) and not need for big motor.

I come back later on forum with new designs for lift with same worm wheel, but it will lift 3 or 4 balls at same time. It will printed with 3D printer to make it easier and also to spare my handwork Perhaps i try make another design to lift 6 balls at same time and that is very fast. But that is another challenge. First 3 / 4 balls.

I suspect that the lifter above is just a lifting module that is the beginning of a much larger marble machine.
