Default I wanted to get some feedback

I wanted to get some feedback on cabinets, hypothetically would you be more willing to buy a cabinet in kit form, assembled unfinished, assembled painted, assembled stained and varnished or with a wrap done on it with some kind of Japanese artwork?

    kit form..

    would save on shipping monies..

assembled units will cost a ton to ship..

cabinets with a wrap could be very interesting

I second that mopar. I will probably build my own, or at least have a friend mostly build it for me. But if I was to buy a cabinet, in pieces needing assembly would be the road most travelled.

I agree that in kit form it would save a lot in shipping costs. However, a kit with pieces already stained or painted would be nice.

one problem with a prefinished unit is it could cause problems with gluing it together... screws are great but glue makes the unit way stronger..

The designing is done. I'm currently working on a prototype cabinet. The only thing I'm hung up on now is the designing of a low profile door release so that a key will not be needed to open it. I should have that figured out in the next week or two. I was just curious on the best marketing strategy. Once I have a completed, working prototype I will post pictures, then I'll decide what I'm going to do from there.

I wish I had known you were working on a cabinet. Just last week I ordered one. Still would love to see the design. Might want to upgrade.

I had some wood laying around so I put together the cabinet design I am working on. I don't have all the bugs worked out but here is the kit prototype cabinet. Showing in the kit form and assembled cabinet.

I like your plans.. similar to mine.. what aobut a plexi front for the top hopper.. its nice to see how many sphears ya have left in the top hopper..

and insted of cabinet hinges.. i would use a piano or small door style of hinges.. lower profile and easy to set a catch tray on or around it
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

are your plans to ofer screws or nail it together?? screws are easy to use but hard to stain after installed.. if your painting then screw are the best.. (of course i would recomnend gluing everything)

Stain. Personally if I was to stain a cabinet I wouldn't like to be staining pine. But that is just my opinion. I think you should offer it in 2 types of wood. A pine and like a Birch plywood or something. That way if you want to paint it save some money and buy the pine one; or if you want to stain it spend a little more and get the birch sided one. IMO.

Your cabinet looks good. But like any cabinet they need some minor adjustments. (like the plexi window)

    100 machines and counting...

This design is based on other cabinets I have built in the past, I just simplified it to sell in kit form. A plexi front for the top hopper would not be cost effective, however if you wish you could core some holes with a hole saw in the top and place a small sheet of plexi on the inside to give you a window. The cabinet hinges are so you can use it as a shelf and then it snap closed so no latch is needed. The kit will be predrilled for screws and I would recomnend gluing, a good wood filler dosn't show as much when staining. The kit will need to be sanded before you do any finishing.

I used pine because in this design there are almost no rip cuts. Almost all the board cuts are standard sizes. But I can cut it out of any wood you want.

    Why not sell keys?

Easy to make a key for vintage machines. (as long as they aren't the round ones. )

This is getting to be a pain, I have measured some of my pachinko machines and come across some odd measurements.

    Nishijin model C 31 3/4" X 20 1/4"
    Nishijin model C 32" X 20 3/4"

    Sanyo 32" X 20 3/4"
    Sanyo Comet II 32" X 20 1/4"

    Sankyo yellow 32" X 20 1/2"
    Sankyo Green 32 1/4" X 20 3/4"

This makes it hard to come up with a standard kit for each manufacturer.
    Any suggestions would be helpful.

Make the cabinets big enough for the largest frame and then use shims and a trim piece for the smaller frames?
