    Default 3d tv

Anyone out there have a 3D TV and would like to share the ins and outs. I would appreciate any advice that would help.

I have a Samsung 40" 3-D tv with a 3-D BlueRay player. All I can say is WOW!! The picture is really clear and the 3-D glasses are much less costly than with most other 3D TV's ($45 each). You can also see the 3D from an angle with this TV, where many 3D TVs require you to sit right in front to get the 3D experience.

We watched Avatar on it when we first got it, and even though the movie was not in a 3D format, you could see depth/dimension in the picture without any glasses.

The only downside we have noticed with the 3D: there are not many non-animated "true" 3D movies out there; the selection is very slim. The movies that have been upconverted to be viewed on a 3D TV are not very good.

Other than that, we are very happy with our TV.

When you can view actual 3D content, the pic is outstanding. There is just not that much content out there similar to when HD started out. On a Samsung 3D TV(the only one I have seen on a regular basis), it has a great picture in 2D mode, but has a much different look to it. Even films that normally have a softer look on other sets look as if you are actually behind the camera watching a live feed.

Biggest con - the stupid glasses. They are expensive and everyone watching has to have a pair to see 3D at the same time. If they ever get a big enough production model out without glasses required, I might get one. Until then, my plasma TV is king. It has much deeper richer colors than LCD's or LED's.

Best advice - go to a few different stores and check them out in person. When you are there compare to other sets in LCD style or plasma(Panasonic is probably the best, Samsung would be my #2 pick). Size matters. Get the largest screen size you can afford + what fits in the room you are putting it in. With 16:9 screens, bigger is always better. My 2 cents worth.

I have a 73" Mitsubishi 3D Set up. Where in VA are you? You are welcome to come by and I can walk you through all the stages I went through to set it up the way I wanted. The AVR is very important to the system, assuming you are also going to go with surround sound as well. As far content goes, 3D blu rays are good. I went with a PS3 for my player. FIOS also offers some 3D movies and ESPN 3D is ok. Football in 3D is amazing!!! The lack of content is frustrating. Hopefully it will get better in time.

I envy you guys. 3D just doesn't work on me, and the image gives me headaches. But as for the selection of movies, it's still limited at the moment. Might be worth waiting a year or so, Now if you can get a 3D projector, That would be cool But it still wouldn't work for me

I picked up a Vizio 42" passive 3D TV for $650. I think there now gone up to $700. I love it. Being passive it works with the same glasses you get in the theaters. Only thing is being passive you don't get full 1080p when in 3D mode but it still looks great.

There are a good selection of movies out. Tron, Hugo, Tin Tin. Kids animated seem to be more suited to 3D rather than live action. I also have a couple of Asian horror movies which are pretty creepy.

It appears there is at least one more to add to the limited list of titles. A friend of mine tells me he just got in an adult 3D Blu Ray

I have to admit I am curious about it. I honestly do not own any adult movies, nor are they something I have ever really been interested in. My wife thought it was hilarious. I am not sure that is something I want to see in 3D!!!

On a side note. 3D is very impressive and I do enjoy when a new Blu Ray becomes available to watch. However, in hindsight, had I realized the lack of content, I probably would have waited before doing it.
