I am in the process of turning my slots into a more apealing display of light and sound.
I will save the sound mod for another post, since there are so many out there. (This sound mod will be more of a Cross-Over/Noise-Filter mod to get rid of the anoying 10,000 - 20,000 Hz. high pitch noise/sound.)
Now on with the "Light Mod"...
PROBLEM: You can see the light filament in several of my slot machines through the semi-transparent films on the slot machines. You can also see the guts of the machine, wires, PCB, bulbs, screws, tape, dust, light mounts...
WHY THIS IS A PROBLEM: To me, this is anoying and a sign of poor design. I don't like looking at someones break lights, only to see a round bulb and a hint of red around it where some of the light, almost lights the plastic. (You should see my break-light mod!) It seems like they decide they could save a few bucks by not adding a light diffuser to these parts which would distribute the light more evenly. (Were they saving a few bucks, or did they never intend to make these slots readable? Who knows...)
RESOLUTION: I will be adding some translucent, (More opaque than semi-transparent), material between the light and the area to be seen.
CONCLUSION: This will make the displays more readable. Similar to how the reels are displayed. This will also hide all of the internal guts of the machine from being seen through the semi-transparent windows that light up.

Materials needed:
1) Tools to remove parts which interfere with this mod. (Screwdriver)
2) Translucent material, (Thin white paper, Plastic Milk Jug, Thin Vinly Lettering, Coffee Cup Lids from 7-11, etc...)
3) Adheasive, where needed. (Clear tape)
Method:
1) Determine what things you want "Whited-out", since we are doing white here.
2) Remove any brackets/fixtures which limit access to the areas that you will be working on. (Place all screws with brackets they cam from, or put them into a plastic container so you don't loose them. I use soda-bottle caps.
3) OPTIONAL PART - Mask areas that you don't want light showing through with black nail polish or electrical tape. (Some parts still allow light to shine through, casting a brighter square that also anoys me.)
4) Cut the White-out material that you have chosen to fit the area to be whited-out. (I am going to be using vinyl, because it will not block too much light. Paper may block too much, and coffee cup lids may also.)
5) My material has adhesive on it... If yours does not, use clear tape to fasten it in place on the plexiglass.
6) Return all the brackets/fixtures back to thier designated locations.
7) Turn it on and admire the cool mod you just did!
