Thanks everyone, I'm speechless, I really appreciate what everyone is trying to do to help.
I know I'm asking top dollar for the Julie. It's not that I'm greedy, it's just that
after selling off a lot of our stuff we are still needing to get ourselves out of
    hot water.
I'd really like the Julie to go to a good home, where it will be cared for there as
much as it has been here in the time we have been able to enjoy it.

I'm still on the hook for the Scandel Fruit of Nao Oikawa a pachinko machine
I put a deposit on it back when things were good with Frank at Custom Pachinko.
So if anyone wants to buy that machine from Frank it means I will get my deposit back.
I paid a deposit of $212.50 which was 1/2 of the cost of the machine.

It looks like a really fun, mature themed pachinko machine.
Frank has given me a month after it comes in to find a buyer for it before
    I would lose my deposit.

I think a lottery is a great idea!
If people want to do that I'm all for it.
I showed my wife this thread and she, like I
was blown away by the generosity of PachiTalk members.

If everyone wants to do that maybe a moderator could set it up somehow.
I have no idea how it would work picking a winner at random tho.

I'd trust Hanabi, or Sid, or any of the Mods to run the show.

I'm sure everyone here can come up with something brilliant and fair, in not too long a time.

    Let's do this!
There is always another machine around the corner...

I'll do my best to be in on this to help Steve, but I'd have to use Paypal.

Certainly count me in. I can't think of a better cause than to help out a fellow member. The fact that there is a chance to win a nice machine like that just makes it all the better. Just let me know once someone figures out the logistics. On a side note paypal would work best for me as well as far as buying in would go.

I would have no problem taking paypal I believe I am setup so I can accept a payment.

I'm just wondering about the logistics of how to do something like this because
I have never done it before.

Sid seems like he has been very busy lately. Maybe Mr. Gneiss or Jeff or hanabi?

If someone can figure it out by all means let me know how we should proceed.
Shipping is an issue tho because I called UPS and they seemed reluctant to
want to pack it and their price to ship was extreme to say the least.

I have no way to pack it myself and I am not confident that I could pack it
well enough that it wouldnot get fdamaged during shipping.

Having this Julie destroyed in shipping would be a crime.

Shipping is unfortunately now more of a factor than when I started collecting. A couple hundred not counting packing fees is less than what I've paid recently and it wasn't as heavy as a modern.

I am fighting a packing issue myself at the moment on my first machine I am selling. Went to fedex and they measured the machine and weighed and quoted my around $60 to ship, when I asked if that included the packing they said no but it wouldn't be bad. Then they came back and said they didn't have a box big enough so they would have to use two 2X2X2 boxes combined. She said that the new dimensions would effect the shipping cost. This time it came to around $170 to ship and that did not include packing. I am now going to pack the machine myself, I just want to be sure to pack it well so that it is protected.

Exactly, it's so difficult to ship and expensive as well.
I woudl worry about damage during shipping even if it was packed properly.
It's not like the delivery guys care if it gets damaged or not.

    Hopefully something will work out.

I have had good success with a method that costs less than $10. The Home Depot carries a large box that's 18x18x24 make a cut down the side so it is then one piece of cardboard and wrap it around the machine taping it up.

Then they have an extra large box which is 22x22x26 you will need 2 of these. Fill the bottom of one of the boxes with some bubble or foam, place the wrapped pachinko in the center of the box with the top flaps still up then fill the sides with whatever packing material you can find. Fill it as tight as you can to prevent movement during shipping. Then place the other box over the top and use lots of tape to secure it. It might not look the prettiest packing job but it works. Fed Ex ground costs around $75.

It may be best if Sid were to set up the raffle to make it fair. Start a thread. PM Steve to for his paypal email. Once payment has been made add your name to the thread. Once 32 posts (with payment) have been made (Steve can verify that all posts have indeed made a payment) use random.org to pick a number the number that is called corresponds to the thread number and we have a winner.

Thanks, yes I understand that everyone is trying to help.
Monkeyboy made some good points about packing it.
I'm just wondering how much Paypal is going to ding me for 32 individual payments of $25.
The other thing is how would shipping fees work?
Would the person who won the lottery pay for the shipping?

This sort of thing is pretty new to me. I only recently got a Paypal account.
The UPS store wants $56 to pack it with bubble wrap and a heavy box.
Their concern is size and how much it weighs etc...

I think I have found a box that might work. Packing material I don't have yet.
But I am asking at a nearby farm to see if they have anything.
I know they get a lot of shipments and often throw out a lot of packing material.
Hopefully I can find someone over there this upcoming week.

if ya go the lottery route count me in..

do ya think ya can get 32 options sold?? 36 units would pay for the freight as well, less odds but a higher reward for the winner

i like mopar's thinking with raising the buy in price to cover the shipping. otherwise the cost of shipping may turn off too many. paypal may charge a fee but i think that may be for only certain relatively high amounts. if the fees do happen it's still worth it for the convenience however. just look at it as a cost of doing this and realistically, helps to facilitate it since no one has to mail a money order, etc.
the ups store will charge for the size of the box which can be surprising if you're not prepared. in other words, let's say you're shipping an empty pachinko sized box for the hell of it. they will charge for the dimension even though it weighs next to nothing. so there's a balance between a large enough box to fit the machine in with space for plenty of padding and keeping it small enough to avoid bumping the cost up to the next dimensional category. it make sense since the larger the box the less boxes they can carry in a given vehicle and less revenue so they make up for it. something to be aware of.
i've never seen a modern in person much less shipped one but if possible, try and take off any parts that protrude so they don't incur the brunt of any impact. on machines i've shipped i remove the ashtray and coin tray, finger rest, etc.
by the way, i'll donate but i'm not interested in having a chance at winning. just not in to moderns but i'd hate to have to give up my arrangeballs/pinballs/guns/ etc., so i'm happy to help

Paypal will charge a small fee per transaction received. If members send the money as a "gift", the members would pay the fee instead of you. This would raise the total per chance a small bit. If we are thinking $25 per chance, it would probably raise it to around $29 per chance. However each member if willing would absorb a one-time small fee instead of Steve having 32 - 36 small fees which I am sure would add up.

I for one am fine with the fee. I really do not expect to be the one out of 32 - 36 to actually win the machine. Obviously the odds are not in my favor, but that is all part of the gamble on getting the machine for a $25 - $30 risk. I would rather pay a small fee than have Steve have to absorb these fees. After all the real purpose, as far as I am concerned is this would be a way to raise some funds for a fellow member. Let's face it, this would also allow him to get more than he would if he were to auction the machine on eBay. Which, do not forget, would still involve both a paypal and eBay fee and of course shipping the machine would still be a factor.

Personally, I would be fine just gifting Steve the funds without him putting the machine up for a lottery. I would much rather be able to help a member through a rough patch and possibly give him the opportunity to keep a machine that both he and his wife love.

Just my two cents worth. I am up for whatever the group and Steve feels comfortable doing.

PayPal charge 2.9% + $0.30 so you are looking at a $1 per $25 so it would cost you $32. Even if you stood the $75 shipping you would still be getting $700 for the machine which in this economy is a great deal.

You could even sell the balls separately to make your extra $100.
