I can say this machine is in great shape as it was mine before Steve got it from me.

Sorry to see you having to do this and I wish the best of luck with the sale or raffle

I would not be comfortable accepting money just on it's own.
Call it what you like but I'm not cool with that.
I would be interested in selling the Julie to raise funds because I am basically
selling the machine in order to recoup my money which is the whole point.

I am a novice when it comes to Paypal but sending a gift is different than
    buying something.

I also have no idea if running a lottery to sell the machine is legal or not.
    Might depend on the State?

I think I'd rather sell the balls with the Julie as people can always use more balls
    generally speaking.

I'm also all for someone wanting to buy it outright.

Thanks Hank, I loved having this machine it was just so much fun to play. If it hadn't been for you I probably never
would have been able to get one.
It is in great shape. I did make some mods so it now has a big hopper and a way to funnel teh balls back into a
    heavy duty container.
    Such a great machine!

I think an outright sale is probably best but if a raffle is legal then that might be ok as well.

If you want to sell it out right realistically I can't see you getting $800 for it but stick it up on eBay and give it a shot you never know. Good luck.

eBay an PayPal will take ~120 off of 800, so that is 680 after fees

Well I'm uncertain about what I should do.
I'm ok with the idea of a lottery if there is a way to make it work
so that it is fair for everyone.

First off, it really sucks that you are having to sell your machine..I'm sure one day you'll be able to get back in the pachi game!!

Now onto the raffle..I love raffles and stuff, but I'm not sure if running one on PT is a good idea..but of course its Sid's decision..

While free giveaways have never been a problem there are a few things that are different when money comes into it..Raffles are illegal in some states and require licenses in most other as it it is seen as gambling by the government..

While it probably wouldn't be noticed by anyone, I'm not sure its worth the safety of the site..

If you did decide to do a raffle, I don't think it could be done on this site.. But if you did do it outside the site I'd probably chip in too!!

Of course this isn't my decision, I just wanted to get it out there so people could plan accordingly..

BTW, if I was rich I'd buy your Julie off you in a second to help you out..but sadly I'm not..But who knows, Publishers Clearinghouse could knock on my door tomorrow!!

Yes the legality of an auction has me concerned as well.

What my wife and I have decided to do is sell the Jule for $650 not including shipping
and then sell the 3,000 pachinko balls separately.
That should make it more affordable for someone and people always want pachinko balls.
I can probably get $130 for 3,000 balls not including shipping which is like $10.50
By weight I'm about 50 balls shy of 3,000 on a very accurate scale.

Does that seem like a more feasible idea?

I'm for a raffle, sign me up.

The legallity of it is not too complex. Organizations and people hold raffles all the time for all kinds of things, from $20 items to $200,000 items. It is up to the winner to pay income tax on the difference of what they paid and what the value of said item is. This is a fairly small value item in the grand scheme of things, so I can not imagine it being any kind of issue. People get pretty shocked by the tax bill they get when they win a new car.

As for how to run a raffle, it is super simple, people pay an entry fee (buy tickets), and on a said day and time, you put everyones name/ticket into a box/hat whatever, shake it up real good, and then draw it. You could do it live on webcam posted through the forums here, so we could all watch the excitement.

To make it more exciting, you could divide up the balls into a small lot, and a large lot, and then the machine itsself, making for a total of 3 drawings.

Paypal is the easiest way for people to enter, and sending as a gift on $25 = not much for the sender to pay on the top, so whoopty-do.

If it was me, I would divide the things to be raffled into groups, 1000 balls, 2000 balls, and the machine itsself, then give each person two tickets/names in the hat per $25. Then there is a chance though a small once that someone would win 2 of the 3 items.

Also I just checked paypal. It is free to both sender and receiver when money is sent as a gift.

Raffles are great fun, and Steve can do whatever he wants..Just not here..the issue isn't how many people do raffles illegally without getting caught or how easy it would be to do here without anyone getting into legal trouble..Its about keeping this site safe and fair..No matter how slim the chances, its not worth losing the site over something like this..and as for being fair, if one member is allowed to do it, then do we let everyone start raffles here??

Steve has already started a new thread to sell his machine so I think its time for this thread to be closed..
