Default decided to do some imprompt to upright pachinko cabs

we are having a welcome home party next weekend for my brother in law (just got finished with his tour in iraq)
so my pachinkos have to exith the bar lol

so in an attmpt to have at least a few machines out and avail for the party goers to play i decided to build some upright cabs

    ran to home depot

    and snagged
    3 1x12x 6feet
    1 1x10x 6 feet

and a box of 15/8 screws

here is where i sit now

still need to add a back stop and a diverter to deal with balls under the machine and a top to deal with the hopper

then after the party ill go ahead and stain and add some doors to the lower ball shelf and bottom

im glad i went with the 12 inch boards instead of the 10 inch

12 inch makes the cab nice and stable with no signs of tipping or falling over

i think it may still be a little topheavy, i would put a small L bracket near the top holding it to the wall to be safe

got the ball lower ball managment done
    using scraps

cut the 3 inch scraps of pine i had a2 7 inches
so i had 2 3x 7 inch sections then used the 1/4 inch backing
and cut it 7 1/2 x 7 and screwed it to the bottoms of the 3x7 inch sedtions then used hot glue to attach it to the back (want to be abkle to remove it if needed easy i may attach a l bracket lar if everything holds up well)

    attached the back board

now all i need to do is finish the backing on the bottom (so you cant see thrue the bottom )
then trace rout it flush with the sides of the machine

then to figure out how ill do the doors on the front

if it ends up being to front heavy once i get it in the main room ill just add some t legs on the bottom

    I really like your cabinet.
May I ask your lumber cost?

I personally think the white pine goes well with the pachinko. I vote for clear laquer.

I don't know the dynamics of the people invited to the party, but if there's a chance that alcohol might be consumed I'd still bolt it to the wall.

thanks not bad for 50$ and 2 houes of work lol

i went ahead and took pics of eacjh step to show how i built it from the ground up

first i laid the machine on its side and flushed the 1x12 x 6foot board with the top and front of the machine drilled some piliot holes and attached the machine with screws to the board
the fliped it over and did it to the oppsite side as well (suing a rotten old nishin vintage to keep it straight )

then i st)od up the whole thing and mesaured the inside distance right at the bottom of the pachinko (this one ended up being 20 3 1/4

so i cut a section of the 1x12 at 20 and 3/4 and installed it at the bottom using pilot holes and wood screws

next i cut one of the 1x10 boards down to 20 3/4 and the riped 3 inches off it for the support under the pachinko
again drilling pilot holes and attaching with wood screws

next i measured on the inside 5 1/2 inches down from the last board i installed
and then halfed 3/4 and made a center mark to drill my pilot holes

i cut a section of the 1x12 at 20 3/4 and then lined the top up with the line i drew and mounted using wood screws

next i made a trough to direct the balls down and into the bucket

rough cut the back and tacked in place with a few screws

got out the trusty trace router and flush cut the back (much more simple than trying to get exact cuts )
and then finished attaching the back to sturdy up the cab

next i cut 2 sections of 1x4 into 22 inches
and mounted to the bottom of the machine leaving 7 inches sticking out in the front

i then cut another section of 1x4 to fit inbetwene thoes legs on the front so when i mount my doors later there will be somthing for them to rest on

    mounted the xformer

    and bam another cab down

    the 1x12x 6 foot were 11$ each and i used 5
i also spent 5$ on a 3 foot 1x12 to make one last shelf
    then 1 1x10 at 7$
    the 1x4 x 6 foot were 4$ and i used 2
that was lumber cost for 2 cabs and thats rounded up to the next $

i always thought mounting the cabinet right on the pachinko was the easiest way to go

no shimming needed and no chance of pachi not fitting in it

The feet on the bottom help alot to keep it from being top heavy . If there are more concerns just add some ballast to the bottom shelf.Great cabinets and they are portable for parties.

mounting them on the pachi first really made it simple to square everything up and enshure a tight fit
i can still open the doors (tho i have no keys so ill have to rig a pull wire)

i think if i was on the concrete floor like in my shop i would have been fine without feet but on the carpet they were a little shaky so i added the feet
now even with the front open they are nice and sturdy and no signs of falling

here they are in the game room ready for saturday i may end up installing the front doors before then just need to figure out how im going to do it

that way i should be able to store one of the excess pachi o have in the bottom of each cab

also just got this huge heavy box from fed ex now ill have to build more cabs to house the rest of my pachinkos before i had 3 wired to 1 transformer

    great looking cabinets

i would add a board to the top.. even if its only 2 inches wide.. I think it would look allot more finished with it.

ill be puting a top on but not untill after the party i need to work up how to load balls

went ahead and installed the doors
i need to get some of thoes magnet catch things because the doors tend to stay a tad open (think the hinges are a little tweaked)

still trying to decide if i should put a door over the ball tray section

it would kinda make the cab more finished looking but then id have to open the door every time i needed to refuil and as we all know when a frenzy is going on you need to refill fast lol

I think the ball tray section looks good open, but if you wanted to cover it but still keep it functional you could make it so the door opened down and formed a shelf when it was open..
