Thats what I thought based on Jeff's photo's. Pounding out a tray out of some thin sheet metal wouldnt be difficult. Or get lucky enough to find something in the same shape to modify (like an old bread pan or something). Funny how bidding kind of stalled after this discussion.

from the front it looks like my "three star" and my "Isuzu" but they both have "B" style backs and no lighting at all. Very cool machine!

The reward hopper on the Narita is a bit unusual as well. The metal tray is easily removable and is held in place by a pair of metal pins(like grenade pins) on either side.

I'm thinking a simple fabrication out of plexiglass might be the way to go to make a new hopper. I would probably paint it rather than leave it clear to hide the adhesive at the corners. You could potentially make it removable and use the pins just like the original. Just kickin' around some ideas, it's all guesswork at this point.

A pelxligass modification is all and well good. Thats easy. I metal fabrication would be the best option in my opinion (as all the mechanics are metal). I guess it depends on if you're a seller or a user. As a user I would use anything to make it work. As a seller, you're probably in a bad position to convince a buyer what is original or not with your plastic modification, and ultimately affect your asking price. Just my take.

The question is, are you buying it for yourself, or restroring it to sell?

Nevertheless, a great machine that has'nt come around in awhile and is worth considering.

I would be a keeper! Would probably use plexiglass to enjoy it as soon as possible...then try to fabricate a metal tray so I would enjoy it more. Sadly it has moved out of the enjoyable price range!

You know you gave me an idea on what could possibly work as a tray.

Go to home depot or lowes. And get one of those mud bins. You know the long narrow ones with the high sides. Take one of those cut a hole in the bottom. And then figure out how to mount it. (possibly brackets on the sides) Should only cost about $7 in total. and should work as a temporary fix.

Good idea, I've roamed the aisles of home depot for pachi restoring materials myself. Probably the best method would be to make a template out of card stock type paper or cardboard, sort of a mock-up, by a sheet of thin sheet metal (home depot) and fold it to match your template. Consider the corners in the template to fold over slightly. Pound it out on a decent vice with mallet or ballpeen hammer. Then solder the seams with a propane torch and solder. I actually made a coin box for a vintage slot machine this way. The only concern would be the sharp edge at the top that might cut you (or potential children) when filling the tray but some sort of tubing sliced and applied to the edge would solve the safety issue. Rolling the edge would take a lot of skill and patience. Using Jeffs photos above as a reference could probably aid in replicating the tray. The reason I thought of a bread pan is that they already have a rolled over edge but I dont know what sizes they come in.

There's enough sharp minds here to come up with a solution. Hope someone here gets it and doesnt hide the fact they got it because I would love to see, learn, and aid in making this work.

Well forty five minutes left and still and 152.00 and thirteen bids. Should get interesting with a few seconds left.

I got it. Paid a little more than I wanted, especially because of the tray missing. I was beginning to run low on machines to restore anyway. I have a client machine, then a '74 Nishijin, then a '68 Nishijin, Then a '71 Nishijin, and then this Narita. I don't know, maybe I will bump the Narita up on the list. I've got a few weeks to decide.

At least it will get a full restore, and everyone here will get to see the results. $208 with shipping, at least the shipping was cheap.

It's so odd finding this thread! Especially because the focus is all on the machine I sold! Yup, the vintage Narita was mine and I can tell you that the sale price more or less surprised me as well. I kept trying to research it beforehand but couldn't find much. So, Narita's are harder to find? One thing I wondered was the year it was made. Anyway to find out? I'm so glad my machine could end up with such a great pachinko family! I'm really excited to see how it looks restored.

    to Pachitalk!

Member James (aka Rival) is the one who bought your machine. He might be able to tell you the date it was built depending if the sticker is there. You couldn't have sold that machine to a better guy. it will most likely lovingly get restored.

    once again welcome to PT.
