    Default Fuji Resto

Started working on the Fuji Challengeball machine.
Took care of a couple of electrical problems and now have it working. Still having a problem when starting a new game. Once in a while the lights will stay dark while playing until another token is inserted. Maybe a relay hanging up? Hopefully this will get resolved while cleaning, adjusting, etc. during the project.
Game play on this machine is interesting.
    Vertical row pays 1 token.
    Horizontal row pays 2.
Four numbers in center (6,7,10,11) pay 3.
    Side pockets pay 1 token.
Pockets on each side of the gate labeled R, ball returns to shooting tray.
Top, center pocket opens the gate.
Once the gate is open, a ball in the #1 pocket on the gate will close it.
Trick is to open the gate and get balls in the 10, 16, and 7 gate pockets before getting a ball in the number 1 pocket, which will close the gate and also light all the numbers on the matrix, for a payout of 15 tokens.
Getting balls in the gate pockets will also light the corresponding numbers on the matrix, but getting balls in the numbered pockets below will only light the numbers on the matrix, but not the red gate numbers (10,16,1,7) below it.

    A few more.
This machine also has counters for tokens in and out, which work.

Close up of the gate in the closed position. Don't think the numbers, 1 through 8 above it, mean anything.

Nice machine. Would you believe that I have the same problem with my lights on my fuji. About every few games it drops the balls and when you shoot them up the lights do not come on. Drop another token and they do. If you figure it out please let me know. The person I bought if from said he did not have that problem when he had it. One wonders if somewhere a contact is quite not setting. Let me know if you figure it out. Going to have mine looked at this fall and will let you know if I have not heard.

Nice bonus feature on yours. Unique machine. Fuji seems hard to find for arrangeballs.

Thats a very interesting bonus feature. I've seen the gate on other arrangeballs but only in pictures. Looks like alot of fun.

Well too each his own. I would take the taiyo with the two center dials as the best of the three. Mike you have played alittle on each, which do you like the best???

The twin matrix taiyo is the most attractive but id have to play the fuji to decide which played the best. IMO, it's between the taiyo and fuji. Haven't played a machine with a gate yet and this is the first one a member has owned.

Haven't been playing the Taiyo much lately because of a problem with the rotating arm, but that is the quiet one of the three. Definitely know when you win a token on the Satomi.
The gate on the Fuji definitely adds some variety. Probably would have started stripping it down sooner, but was enjoying playing it too much. But I do enjoy playing the Satomi. The Taiyo is the favorite of my fiancee.

Don, sounds like your problem with the lights, is the same as mine. I'm thinking, one of these ice cube relays is hanging up. Is there any chance of finding a replacement for one of these, if that is the problem?

Well I am not home but I do have alot of the large relays. Are they plug in or are the ones you are looking at sodered in. Show me where you think it is. When I get home I will see if I have any.
    ______________________________________________________
My other problem is I do have a sodered in relay that one of the soder joints has broke. Not sure what or how you get one out of the board??

If it is a relay hanging up you could watch the relays (the coil inside pulls in the armature) as various functions are going on during a game or game start. Keep doing that until you can narrow down which relay does what. Hopefully when the game is not working right you'll be able to notice which relay didn't move and go from there. That's assuming it is a relay and not whatever component on the board that controls the relay is faulty. Relays can be replaced and I've done it a few times but luckily they were the socketed and not the soldered type. Any component can be replaced on the circuit board. If it's soldered then you have to remove the board, desolder the relay while using a solder pump or copper braid to remove the old solder and then solder in the new one. As far as which relay look and see if there's any specs on the old relay and do a google search. Ideally you can find some NOS or used but working replacements that were pulled off other electronics and sold as salvage. If not then there is likely a modern equivalent but it may not have the same pin orientation. I found the ones I needed in eBay and they were cheap.

Was thinking about doing just what you said.
The 3 relays on this machine are plug-ins, not soldered.
Will have to wait till I get it back together. Got it stripped down pretty good now.

Yes I do have a couple of extra. If I was home I could send you one or two but not their. I am going to have to try and find some of the small sodered in ones for my Taiyo Owl someplace when I get home. Will talk to Mike before I order. Don
