    Default Holy grail?

Hey guys, I was just wondering if there are any machines ( vintage or modern) that are considered the holy grail of the hobby? Any special machines that a newbie should keep an eye out for?

    Julie Pinball - Modern
    Cutey Honey - Modern

Have fun trying to find those. But if you do they are well worth getting.
They are the hardest ones to find of the modern machines.

'Garfield' and 'Horror Mansion' are harder to find

Actually a lot of Moderns are now 'hard to find' but some were very popular and a lot of members bought them when they were first imported over to US or UK,

I think they are only hard to find now because so many members, myself included, never sell their pachis, so once in their collections they never make it back onto the market for re-sale

I think as regards the 'Holy Grail' that is totally dependant on where your interests lay and will be ever changing

Perhaps but the Julies and the Cutey Honeys are impossible to find and are highly desireable.
You could probably make more money selling those to someone in Japan.

I have no desire to get a Garfield or a Horror mansion for example so it really does depend
on who wants what. But rarity alone isn't enough. I will probably buy a Bakabon 4 when
it becomes available in a year or so. I will probably have the only one in the US.
But that doesn't mean everyone will want one.

In the US the 2 games I mentioned are way up on the list of must have games for moderns.

There could be a lot of them but since none are for sale anywhere they are scarce and
if the OP wants a list of "holy grail" machines they would most certainly be on it.
At least in the US, I can't speak for the UK.

I think if you're reasonably new to collecting Pachinko then you are going to find older models like 'Julie Pinball' hard to find,

I would imagine the majority left Japan quite a few years ago, it was released in 2006, the year I joined PachiTalk, which is probably why I remember so many of them being about and talked about, heck we just couldn't get enough of Kenji Sawada and all the glossy books, flags and CD's that promoted the machine and I managed to get one around 2007/08 I believe? But I have not seen any for sale over here for a long long time either.

Whilst I agree that rarity alone isn't enough, it does make a convincing 'holy grail' for those that seek the 'hard to find' gems.

At least being a PachiTalk member will help in the search for those 'hard to find' titles, as I'm sure our members are especially 'eagle-eyed' when it comes to tracking them down.

So hopefully Steve will get his Julie and Cutie Honey and then he'll be looking for the next 'holy grail' and we'll be here to feed that addiction

For me my "Holy Grail" was an Arrangeball. This will be different for everyone, I am sure. I put less value in how rare a machine is and more into what interests me. My next "Holy Grail" will be my next Arrangeball. I am addicted to the machines. In fact with the exception of having one Hanemono, one Vintage and one Modern in my collection, I will be specifically on the hunt for Arrangeballs. If I ever come across another Hanemono, vintage or modern that I like better, the one in my collection will most likely be sold when it is replaced. Arrangeball machines will be listed in my will to be passed down.

I think in the years of release around 2004 to 2007 are getting real hard to find. For me it is finding a maharaja or a monster mansion,or even a janken battle. These years are when high tech graphics and bigger lcd's and great animation really took hold on the game play.Collectors are holding on to them because they can't replace them at a cheap price anymore. Those days are gone.

Since I have already found and purchased an arrange ball, a power flash, a Star Wars and an assortment of unique and rare 1950's era machines, I consider the "Holy Grail" of my collection now to be a pre-Masamura machine that was built in the 1940's.

As was stated earlier, "Holy Grail" will mean something different to everyone.

I actually have a Julie and my wife wants the Cutey Honey.
Honestly I'd prefer to have a Raised in Southern Okinawa - Okinawa version than a Cutey Honey based on the videos I have seen.
I will buy one once the price comes down.

I think the OP wants a list of machines that are considered collectible. I offered 2 choices. There certainly are many other machines that are considered
    holy grail machines.

I see people listing their suggestions as well as mine.

The new machines that are coming out very well could be future holy grails for people in 5-6 years, who knows?

I ran a retail business selling collectibles, so I am fairly familiar with the topic in general.
Pachinko is not much different regarding collectibles than anything else.
Scarcity, Rarity and Desirability are all factors and in the case of Pachinko how fun is it to play.

Pachinko, I would say must have...Cutey Honey , and maybe Julie.

Pachislo, Spin Luck, Dragon Dice, Harley Davidson

But everyone has their own taste, so what's perfect for one, may not be for another.

Depends who you are and what you want.

I think the topic of US Holy Grail machine has been covered already.

If you're Japanese, some of those rate, but there are far more machines from the Vintage class and early 1980's (as Compirate pointed out) that would fetch many thousands $$, if ever seen.

One particuarly nice and rare (very few produced) machine from the early modern era, we were all discussing a month or so back. That's covered here : http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/vint...-nishijin.html Let us all know if you find that one!!! Unlikely there is one in the States.

I have a book that lists (circa late 1990's) the rarest machines, from a Japanese perspective only, of late Vintage to early Moderns. It's all in Japanese, but I am happy to post up scans if I can find a place to put them. Might have to list it on my site I think...

Speaking of my site, if you go through the Galleries on pachimono.com, the earliest machines listed in each category by each maker are usually quite hard to find. Holy Grail's though? Some are so average to play that no-one would probably bother, even if they could find them!
There is always another machine around the corner...

That is right. I forgot about the Super UFO.

That is an extremely cool machine. I would love to own one. But I don't think there are many in the world.
